Looks like I'll be traveling for work at some point in February or early March. How is the late winter/early spring fishing? I'll be from the shore or wading, preferably for trout or reds.

Will I need waders? Any tips or locations specific for the season?

During that time the Black Drum Run will be on. The BIG UGLIES will be migrating and they do get big.
During the 3rd week in March at the Texas City Dike, the Rusty Hook Fishing Club will host it's annual
Black Drum Tourney ( slot limit 14"-30") It's basically a 2 1/2 day event. The weigh station and tickets
will be located at Boyd's One Stop Bait and Tackle at the base of the Dike. Cracked crab fished on bottom
is the way to go. Your 2 heaviest fish for the weekend will compete for 1-3rd places. Big Fish of the Day
will get you an extra $50. You have the best luck fishing at the end of the Dike over the Rocks. The Dike
is 5 1/4 miles long. No more bait camps on the Dike due to Hurricane Ike. Yes,you can drive out there.
Starting March 1st-Nov.1st, the city charges $5 per car on weekends.
