Are you looking for a guide? Are you bringing a boat? How well do you know big Sam? How are you wishing to launch?

Try to go during the week. It's turned into fork on the weekends with smaller fish. In March beat the banks with senkos and tx rigs

Launch at Jackson Hill. Go north into the backwaters known as “The deer stand”. Catch fish all day. It’s easy.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

If the wind blows.....trailer to ramps around the lake! I’ve fished big water from The Big O to Sturgeon Bay. The ROUGHEST freshwater water I’ve ever been in was coming out of 5 fingers facing a strong SW wind ! Be aware!

As some of the responses suggest, depending on the wind strength and direction Big Sam can get mean. Jackson Hills a good boat ramp unless the wind is blowing hard from the North Consider this when deciding on launch locations. March is a good month to fish Rayburn even on weekends. Consider following a boat to an area or multiple areas, ( with there agreement )

First thing that I would do is get a pen and some paper and watch the Ken Smith videos where he breaks down the entire lake for getting around on it. Second thing I would do is purchase the boat lanes program and install it on your fish finder. Ken offers the best information on getting around the entire lake in his vides you will find. He shares a lot of information. In fact, I would like to see Ken redo those videos and give a little more information once you get in the areas like he did in Buck Bay. He pretty much covers getting to all of the areas but not much once you get in them. Got that Ken? As mentioned above the grass will be your friend and you can catch a lot of fish out of it and in March you could catch some big ones. Not sure where you are from but you should take a little time and use a lot of gas and drive the lake both north end and south end, weather permitting. South end is a little less treacherous but the lake and area is beautiful and well worth looking around and fishing all over.

The Deer Stands was a popular choice of mine to visit. Loved the water back there.

Plan on fishing in a pack. If it’s a place people are willing to tell you about means it’s a community hole. And folks come from far and wide in the Spring. My suggestion is compile all these suggestions, then fish the conditions. Anywhere on that lake could be dynamite if the conditions are right. Don’t be afraid to explore I guess. Just be mindful of the wind and water level for safety. With it down a couple feet the North end is dangerous for people who don’t know the lake.

Deer stand can be good at times but in March especially on a weekend you'll be packed in there with a lot of others. There's really no bad place in March to fish. Pick a decent sized creek and go fish

The fishing in March should be good. There will be a good number of fish shallow with the chance to catch a big female. You'll enjoy your trip as far as fishing goes.
For someone that isn't familiar with Rayburn, it can get dangerous in a hurry. A NW wind is the worst on the lake. If the weatherman is predicting 15mph winds, assume it'll be 20-25. A SE wind can get rough also. As far as where to stay and launch - you can't beat the midlake area around Cassels Boykin. There is a motel that is clean (Lakeview) with a store and a short order grill. There are a couple of restaurants within 10 minutes in Zavalla and Broaddus. Launching at Cassels Boykin gives you access to the hole lake but in case of wind, there is Popher's Creek that will allow you to fish out of the wind and never fish the same area twice (it's big).
If you prefer a cabin rather than a motel, Morgan Creek Cabins is a good, clean place to stay that's reasonable and is about 3 minutes from the Cassels Boykin ramp. They have a Facebook page with pictures of their cabins and RV park.

Jackson hill is a great spot to launch from. I will actually be down there for a week in March. go every year. Bite differs. Senkos, Tx Rigs are always a good bet. find some hydrilla in 4-6 ft and yo-yo a red trap. White chatterbaits and A-rigs too. If the water gets up, fish up in the trees. Honestly just about anywhere you go there you will have a good bite with a chance of big one. Never know where you will find them. My father in law caught at 10-11 on a wacky rigged Red Bug Trick worm on a 1/16oz C-Rig in 2ft of water 2 years ago in Mud Creek. Crazy. When are you going? I would be more than happy to show you some spots if you are down there when i am. PM Me if interested.
