Too bad the 440 is not available in the USA. I prefer 440 over the reload. Glad i have one.

Sirjet, I think that’s a smart way to go about it, not trying to push it too far, too fast. I like to do sort of long and vigorous treks at times just because that type of exercise makes me feel better in the long run. One of the reasons I don’t get a boat, even a little Jon boat plus motor which isn’t all that more $ than a kayak, for the saltwater is that I can combine exercise and fishing with going out in a kayak.
I always feel pretty good and young when out paddling and at 57 years old, I can’t say that I always feel very young or all that great, as compared to 10 years ago and especially 20 years past.

There's a '19 Profish 400 with rudder on CC Craigslist, in Rockport for $750! If I could only spare the cash, it'd be in my truck. IslandJim

My stealth fisha 500 is easy to keep around 6.5-7 and top speed just above 10 mph. How much eggnog did you drink when you made this post?

Not real sure what you know about stealth kayaks but prof salt has had his 555 up to 12 mph. Fred york has also has been over 10 in his stealth. They are not made like other kayaks. I will say you will find it hard to pee from one

I will say you will find it hard to pee from one Never heard of professor salt but did know Bruce Gibson, who was the guy to know in south Florida for learning about performance kayaks back when I was learning about speed. He imported to south Florida some of the first performance fishing kayaks from South Africa and New Zealand. I had the opportunity to paddle what were considered some of the fastest fishing kayaks in the world, with specs similar to the Stealth Kayaks you mention. What I learned was that physics pretty much applies to all kayaks, none in the length, beam size comparable to the fisha 500 were easy to keep at 6 or 7 miles an hour, and none I saw ever hit 10 that weren't coming off a big wave. http://venturesport.com/about-us/Also spent a lot of time learning from this guy... a very controversial dude that was a big proponent of new kayak designs from overseas and his disdain for the direction American companies were moving to wide beam kayaks. http://godfisher.powweb.com/yakdesign101.htmlPS... I wear zippered waders and can pizz in 3 foot waves from just about any kayak.

I used to like to time and record my fishing trips. Normally on the way back, I paddle with maximum effort to shore. I did a 3.05mi in 45min 33sec, or 4.0 mph in lake somerville yegua creek. This was with a 12' long 28'' wide SOT kayak (44lb kayak, minimally rigged for fishing). With the same kayak, for a shorter distance, 0.89mi, 12min 17sec or 4.4mph. (Should be able to do a 200 yard sprint at 5mph) With a longer kayak 14' long 26'' wide, best I did was 4.5mph for 1 mile. (these were all on relatively calm waters).
I would imagine with a 17' long 24'' wide carbon fishing kayak, probably I can do 5 mph for 1mile or more.

I'm 6'-0", 230 lbs. I can paddle my 'Cuda 12 fully loaded, on flat water anywhere I want to go at around 3 MPH. Most of my lake trips are around 3 miles out and back. My start spots are roughly a mile from put-in.

The best paddling kayak I have had was an old Tarpon 160 but it was a PITA to haul without a trailer and I am too old to get it on top of a truck, so I got rid of it.
Worst padding kayak I ever had was a Feel Free Lure 115. Like paddling a barge but super stable.
I now have a Hobie Outback and it is a compromise using the paddle, but with the pedals, I can fish hands free, so the Outback wins.

Those are very good speeds for those kayaks specs, especially for those distances. I'm 64, weigh 165 and can still get my 14' 28 inch beam Manta Ray up to 5.25 for a split second but it drops back down to 4.75 on every other stroke. If I stop paddling altogether it's as if you hit the breaks. Will try to get speed on gps pics the next time out.. just trying to keep things real.
