I'm looking to get some feedback from you, the crappie fishermen, as we get ready to fire up our machines for the 2020 fishing season. The minimum amount I can make with our big molds is roughly 10,000pcs at a time, so I'm trying to get a good idea of what you like. We still do plenty of custom work, but when it comes to what we keep in stock on our website and what we put in stores, your feedback is incredibly valuable.

So, with that in mind, do y'all prefer laminate style baits (color stacked top and bottom) or fire tail style baits (body and tail are two different colors)?

Any feedback you can give in regards to color, style or anything you would like to see from Constant Pursuit Outfitters will be greatly appreciated. If there's something you don't see on our site that you would really like, let us know!

I prefer the tail being off color...I do need to make a spring order

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Laminate, dark and light contrast top to bottom is natural. I can always dip the tail if needed.

I think the laminates look more natural.

Lane, I think the fire tail catches the consumer eye better when stacked on a shelf beside other manufacturer’s offerings... they both catch fish...

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. The one thing I really dislike about the major manufacturers is how much of the tail that they pour. 1" of bait one color and 1" of tail another color. I would rather have all solid color and then dip the paddle or very tip of the tail in the color that I want. Several years ago I found some speckled trout that only wanted a pink hologram Gambler Flappin Shad with just a sliver of the tail dipped in white. I'm talking about a 2mm wide dip. If you didn't dip the tail or you dipped the whole tail the catch rate was easily 1:8. Since then I've done the same thing with solid crappie baits and sometimes it is what they want. I've taken the Sausage Gravy and Shad Boy Chubbies and added just a tiny bit of chartreuse or pink to the tail and it made all the difference in the world. Especially when the fish get finnicky. I think sometimes all it take is just a tiny bit to catch their eye. Whereas, too much scares them.
