New to the thought of sinking man made brush piles, so with that being said how long does it take fish to stage on a new pile. Will fish find it in a few hours or does it take a few weeks? Just curious to know if you put a pile out on Friday afternoon, could you fish it Saturday?
Newbie here, so thanks for answers!

Lots of factors. In the summer time they will get in them the same day as long as you place them in the right area. I usually drop all my brush a season ahead now. I put all my spring piles out about a month ago, not a big fan of fishing fresh brush. Hard to see through the leafs and bubbles with livescope.

Like Cameron mentioned there are a lot of things to consider.

have you been catching fish there already?
is there other cover present and you are just trying to "move" them over some?
if no cover is present is there sort of structure like a hump/rock pile/long point there?

if you already have existing cover/structure and fish are present they can be on it right away. some fish really like the green leaves just like when you have a flood and those leafy limbs seem to work best. if you have a "new" place that has nothing else around it(like a small cove that just slopes to the middle) then it take a while. I tend to lay my trees in a "V" or an "L" from shallow to deep or along the hump/drop so that fish can feel comfortable at multiple levels/depths.

in the one pic I am going from our dock and found where it starts to drop and wanted to kinda stack them up.

on the other pic its a mostly featureless cove(some old stumps) so I wanted to put some from shallower to deep and also along the dropoff that I can fish from shore easiest(left side). then I just kinda massed them in the middle. I caught some spotted bass off them the next day but they may have been present already. these were mostly Christmas trees but I like using hardwood like sweetgum or oak too.

Thanks for the info guys. I was hearing all the talk about brush piles being put out at lake falcon since the lake is low and there is little cover right now. I was curious if i went down on a friday and put a pile or two out if fish might find them by saturday. So it sounds like they will, if they are in the area. Next question, what is the temp when crappie start to move up shallow or into the creeks? Thinking about placing a few piles right in a creek channel to optimize my pile placement and time I have to fish.( friday placement- fish sat &sun)

It takes them as little as a couple of hours if they are placed right. I am not sure about Falcon but the crappie have been in the creeks since November in DFW.

If you are that limited on time, I would spend the time idling with side scan and find existing fish, or hire a guide. I’m hearing Falcon crappie are pretty easy, just need to find the piles.

the bigger you make them, the easier I can find them.... just a thought to ponder. I make many small piles. I look for 1-2 bass or 4-5 crappie off one pile.

I put mine out in Jan/feb but don’t fish them until July. I imagine fish find them sooner but I’m
Preoccupied with striped fish most of the spring and early
Summer. Works for me. Easy limits on my home lake

This is true. The bigger the better

I built some brush piles and sank em last summer. Fish on them within the week. I built them out of pvc and sprinkler tubing.
