I notice a fair number of fishermen night fishing this winter on Lake Tyler. It's not been particularly cold this winter and perhaps that's one reason. But I've never fished at night this time of year. For those of you who do, is the fishing any good at night in the winter?

Last thing you want is to fall in into cold water at night. No thank you.

Last thing you want is to fall in into cold water at night. No thank you. I should admit I have the best underwater lighted dock with the most brush on the lake. That may be one reason I'm visited frequently. I did catch a fish or two a couple of nights about a week or two ago but I was on my dock fishing. I agree falling in the water could be fatal pretty quickly at night because there aren't that many people out there to help. I always wear a life jacket but it likely wouldn't help much in 50 something degree water.

All those years fishing Monticello at night in the winter when it was so cold ice would form on my rod eyelets aged me to the point that I can’t night fish in the winter anymore.....or something like that.

We fished at night in Tennessee for years. My boat hardly saw the light of day until Winter. We actually tried fishing into cold weather for a couple of years and it was not worth the effort.

I don't usually start night fishing until the first warm week in February. I'm not sure you gain much before that. The lakes are generally not busy. You've got a bunch of hassle and increased risk that comes with night time fishing. Then, if you do catch a big one, you get a bunch of lousy picture to prove it.

For me the very best fishing day or night is in March at night. Fewer overall numbers maybe but far more big fish.
