It was a miserable afternoon on Choke today. I got there about 11:30. Wind was tough until about 3 pm. The rain was supposed to be done by 11, but it rained on and off all afternoon. I didn’t have a rain suit with me and was soaked. At least it wasn’t cold.
Fishing was tough. I tried a Crankbait , Weightless fluke over the grass, jigging spoon, and a 4 inch stick worm. I managed a dozen or so small ones, all on the worm in 20-25ft.

So, a warning for out of towners wanting to come here. Book your hotel room first, town is freaking insane, apparently they are working on the Valero refinery or something and there’s like 700 people working just on it. The girl at DQ said this thing last about 3 months, I don’t know if it’s true or not; but there’s way too many people down here right now. frown

If anyone knows the whole scoop, I’d love to hear it, even if it’s just in a PM.

Turn around usually last at the most one month.
They cannot go much longer unless a major issue which is unlikely.
The refinery plans these things at least a year ahead and usually anticipate every detail.
Major loss of money when down so they do all the work as fast as possible.
I worked in TR for 38 years that is how i know a little bit of how it usually works.

Good luck to all!
PS Why is there not any Nueces River white bass reports?

Good deal, it’s nuts there when they have shift changes!

I haven’t seen much about the Neuces on Facebook, has to be slow; because the guys on Facebook can’t resist posting when they are catching them. Seems 99 is the most consistent, you just have to navigate it with the other 300 boats up there.

Its been almost 3 weeks since we were there, but they were still on main lake humps and mouths of coves. Eggs in females were not near mature yet.

Hit the Hiway 99 bridge area today. Water temp 63 degrees. About a dozen trailers in the lot when I arrived at 8:15AM -- very foggy last 10 miles on I37 before existing at Hiway 99.

Played around with the new Livescope chasing crappie for the first 3 hours in the area around the bridge -- caught ~ 12 small crappie I found hanging around submerged stumps. Most hit a pink & chartreuse plastic curly tail. All returned to grow bigger.

Then fished up river at all the normal holes, points and creek intersections -- didn't see many WB on the graphs until around noon, then the action started. Caught ~ 30-35 WB, a dozen were 14+ inches, the rest 9-10 inch size. Quit fishing @ 2:00PM. 11 of the 12 keepers were females, almost all the small fish were males. Most were caught on a shad pattern size 5 Rapala shadrap.

At 99 launch Saturday, the circus was in full swing!
Pity the guys who get there early as some of the late people block you in. They park where you can't even back out or turn around.....But that's okay as long as they don't have to walk. realmad

Yep, Facebook has ruined going to 99. Those idiots post on there daily and every thread has 4 or 5 guys asking “how do I get there”?

South Shore has been really slow for me the last few trips, I’d like to run up to 99 and try it; but no freaking way I’m doing it right now.

JImbo- I'm suprised you went on a Saturday after the Cat is out of the Bag. I avoid it on the weekends even if they are jumping in the Boat !!! cowboy

I know I should know better!
I've gotten older and just can't deal with the crowds anymore, and common courtesy is a thing of the past, but it only takes a few.
Just wasn't able to make it during the week as of late, and we took a chance and got out there late, and almost weren't able to turn around because people parked blocking the turn around.
Ended up going to Caliham and no problem there.
Caught a nice string of catfish which I think are much better than those white bass, and it takes fewer of them to make a big stack of filets.
Have you been doing any good, Rio?

Did fairly well yesterday at Choke, until the wind about blew our butts off the lake. Ended up around 10 fish for about 3 hours of fishing, not bad. We had fun, thought safety first, will go back in springtime. Good fishing to everyone. fish
