Caught 7 of these beauties yesterday at Blue Hole Park in Georgetown. These two were deep hooked so they will be transferred to the grill. Usually the first day of stocking at this location is epic! Usually, I have caught 20-30 fish....BUT yesterday was not like that. It was a grind to get the 7 I caught.

So, what was different? The water temperature was much warmer than it usually is this time of year. The air temperature was 82 degrees F. There were actually kids playing in the water downstream from the fishing area. The fish were not aggressive like they usually are. All of my tactics were the same. ( 4 lb test line and SD lures) I think the fish were in temperature shock. Much cooler today.

Still it was a great time fishing! Will give it a try again later!

Nice post and fish. Good job. thumb

Side Note: I stayed local and fished the Live Oak Stocking. Truck arrived around 8:30 a.m. Fished till 10:30 a.m. and caught about 30 fish all on the Gold Super Duper. Kept five. Went back today at day break and saw plenty of fish topping water and only caught three. nuts There were 10 other anglers and I only saw a total of seven fish caught. eeks I think the warmer temperatures do play a factor in the bite. hmmm Like the saying goes. "Sometimes they bite and other times they simply do not". It's called FISHING! thumb

Glad you had an epic morning,BAF!!

There was a good turnout at the Blue Hole yesterday. About 35 fisher people by my unscientific count. No fights or arguments that I heard. HaHa!

I will try again late tomorrow or very early on Saturday or both. We can't catch em if we don't go!!

ifishlbj I agree with your assessment. Wednesday at the Blue Hole was really slow. I only caught 10 on SD and had to work for them. I went back Thursday evening and had much better luck. From 5pm-5:45pm until dusk I caught 20 on SD and lost another 8. This golden beauty was one of them. [Linked Image]

Good job Trent. I figured it might be better Thursday and of course I couldn't make it that day. I'm going to avoid the weekend crowd at The Blue Hole. I'm planning on going to Shirley McDonald Park on the 21st. It was epic last year.

There is a very technical term for that rainbow without the spots. The only location that I have caught a few of the no spot trout is the Blue Hole.

I'm having serious thoughts about trying the tail race below Canyon Dam. What say you Banker? Have you been? Anyone else?

We have a new Academy in Georgetown that keeps 4 #502's in gold on the shelf except when I buy them. They also usually have 3 #501's in silver . I have bought the silvers only once and have yet to test them.

Also, you can order the SDLs online and have them delivered to an Academy near you.

Ifishlbj I have been to the tailrace twice this year and it has been kinda slow. I caught 8 and 9 and the crowds are really crazy. also as far as the silver SD I have the same luck with the silver as I do the gold. It is more about presentation than color. Yes I will be out at Shirley McDonald as well this week.
