How many of you have a Tru Lock system? One of my biggest problems is staying in place in a Bass Tracker.

A what? Please excuse me, but I am having a senior moment...I guess I don’t have on, cause I don’t even know what one is right about now.

Maybe I said it wrong,. The system that keeps you in one spot during high winds

Spot lock is what you're referring to. and yes it will help tremendously on those lightweight aluminum boats.

Oh yea, I have spot lock...I use it occasionally, however, with the wireless remote trollers, I can usually dial in well enough to hold tighter, than the spot lock...so I tend to do that more often than not...that said, spot lock is a useful tool!

I have a 80 lb minn kota terova on my 175 TXW. The spot lock will not stay on in high winds. Also, it should be called wander around and bash into stuff instead of spot lock. Most of the time I cannot use it as it does not actually hold me in a spot but just a general area. I understand the newer stuff works better but since I most often fish tied up to some deep dock in the shade I have not seen the need to invest in another expensive trolling motor.

Ulterra or Ultrex will work fine. The first generation Terrova and Ulterra will not hold you right on a spot, therefore the aforementioned wandering. These newer generation trolling motors use multiple transponders to affix you to a spot, and they work very, very good!

My Ulterra really holds tight. I have locked next to a tree before and did not hit the tree for an hour. But in Creeks where there is minimal wind, it will move around a bout 5 ft.
as Crappicat said, I also just control the speed of the motor to the wind and just move side to side when need to. especially under Bridges..

as others have mentioned, avoid the first gen spot locks if you buy used. about the least expensive GPS model will run you around $1000 (Xi3 52 lbs @ Bass Pro).

i personally have not met many people that have regretted spot lock purchase. but you can definitely do without if you fish a lot of bridges (as the GPS signal won't be reliable) or if you can simply tie up to standing timber. no need to overthink it unless you have to!

I don't think spending that much will go over too well at the moment. wife got laid off and money is getting tighter.
I need two heavier anchors for open water brush piles

I’ve got a 2018 model Terrova (2nd gen) on my aluminum center console and the spotlock works great. The back end may swing around in high winds, but the front will pretty much stay over the spot. I used it yesterday to stay over some brush in 20 mph winds.

I have a 2019 Terrova on my G3 center console with I-Pilot Link. Agree with SAdoc -- SpotLock holds the front of the boat holds over the spot, however teh stern does swing in high winds.
