So I went to Toyota and had oil & filter changed. It's a 2013 Tundra with 98,000 miles. I plan on keeping it a long time.
Transmission is sealed and in the past they told me not to ever worry about changing it. Yesterday they said they could and it wouldn't be any problem.
Is it too late to change the transmission fluid at 98,000 miles???

What does the manual say? My 2012 Highlande says every 60k miles I think. If yours says the same, I'd think you're fine at 98k. The Toyota transmissions last a long time, so I'd try to maintain by the book as closely as possible.
If this was an older Ford or Chevy, I'd be more concerned of causing a problem with a late change since they only lasted 100k-200k to start with. But with the better more modern stuff, and especially with a Toyota, a late change wouldn't be something I'd avoid.

My mechanic inspects the fluid first. If the fluid is pretty clean with no metal shavings he will change it. If there are any signs of metal in the fluid, he recommends not changing it.

There are 2 schools of thought on this- change it, and changing it could cause more damage. IF changing it, I recommend you do the full flush. It’s more expensive, but they Use a machine to circulate fluid through to get as much foreign matter and old fluid out as possible. Just changing the fluid is not good enough. I’m not a mechanic, but this is my experience with various vehicles.

Your manual has a recommended maintenance schedule that will tell you when and what to change. I go by that and tell my preferred mechanic what I want done. I take mine to a place that only works on Toyotas and Lexuses. They know their stuff and know what needs to be done and when for my truck.

not cheap but a lot less than a major repair. Don't flush. Just do a drain and fill. It is an easy DIY if you chose to.
