 Finding night crawlers or worms

Hello,
What's your favorite method for finding some live night crawlers or earthworms for some live bait panfishing? I've given the ol' cardboard trick a try and waiting to see what it yields in the yard.
Anyone lucky enough to just dig a couple holes and pull out some nice bait?

Buy them...either at the store or online. It's also easy to raise them afterwards too. Look online for several vendors who sell worms, supplies and have information for breeding them.

I raise worms, mostly for the worm droppings for plants. But as nice side benefit, I have an endless supply of fish bait. To give you an example of how they reproduce, to stock a new worm bed, I buy a tub of "large redworms" from Walmart that contains 30 worms. In three months I could start using them for bait and never make a dent in the population.

I have been experimenting with new worm beds, using a mixture of leaves, cow manure, and peat moss. I mix it up and let it sit for about a month. I then go buy a box of worms at Walmart and put them in the mix. That's about 30 worms. I cut cardboard covers, and feed them cornmeal. In two months, I have thousands of worms! It proves the old saying that worms double their population in a month, it more like a thousand times. I have been using 30 gallon plastic cattle protein containers to start these new beds. Keep them fed and moist and you will have all the bait you can use.
Whatever containers you use, always add air vents at the bottom. It keeps the water level from getting too high and it promotes good decomposition.
