Planning to be in the immediate vicinity of Richland Chambers in a few weeks, and I’d like to fish a couple of afternoons. I can’t get a guide, timing needs to be flexible. Looking to launch out of the hwy 309 park ramp, if this is open?

I’ve been on this lake 2 times previously, once with a guide, and once on my boat with someone who knew it really well. What stuck with me is the last time we were drifting in my boat and talking, and boat smacks into something in the middle of nowhere. Guy I’m with says “trees”, I say “we’re in 40 ft of water”. I swap over to downscan, yep, trees...

So after some more research I’m hesitant to get above idle speed. I’d like to know if there are any clear running areas to the South and East of the Hwy 309 ramp. Can you run the creek bed coming out of the hwy 309 ramp?
I found some humps and features I can idle to from there to fish. If it’s too much trouble, I may just trailer to Cedar Creek. I’d hate to be on one lake to trailer to another though...

Still lots of timber in RC, especially above the bridge. Look at Google earth back when lake was low, will show you what's down below.
Lakes down a bit ,so be smart, don't put your self at risk at high speeds. thumb

309 ramp would be sketchy at current water level. That whole area is a big shallow flat. I use to launch there all the time, but have heard too many vandalism stories.
Go on over to Oak Cove and you wont have to worry about you're vehicle. Be careful running the lake, lots of stumps where you least expect.

Good Luck,
Bozz

I have always launched out of 309 guess I have been pretty lucky have not been vandalized yet. You can go over to Fishermans Point and launch from there the only problem is that the ramp is step but you wont have to travel to get to the south side of the lake. You will be pretty safe on the south side of the bridge be carefull over by the 309 flats as it gets shallow there. If you launch at 309, there are 3 islands right there as you leave the cove. If you stay close to the shore until you pass the boat house you will be ok. Sandies have been there in the past along with hybrids. You can go over to pelican island there is an old air port run way under water there and the fish hang out on it. Good luck and hope this helps you.
