To me the only + of the 1/2 ton diesel is fuel mileage. Look at the capability of the ecodiesel and ford F150 PS and fuel mileage when compared to the titan. The 2020 F150 and ecodiesel are rated for more towing and even better fuel mileage than before.

Weird to me to see the knock on the looks of the Titan. I like the XD cosmetically quite a bit.

To me their biggest miss was fuel mileage. If it averaged the 25 mpg they were hoping it would get it would be a different animal.

I think it had to do more with cost than fuel mileage. Some of them were same price as a Dodge 2500. And with the high price came poor resale value. Made it a no brainer for a lot of folks.

I don't think the Japs will ever overcome the Bubba factor when it comes to full size trucks. The Bubbas are pretty loyal to one of the big 3

If they had come in at a decent price ($40k starting price for a base model, $50k moderately equipped and $60k tricked out, with $5k discounts off MSRP), they would have sold a decent number just with the Cummins name. If they had the same price and got 25 mpg, they probably would have sold a bunch more too. Although I tend to think most guys concerned about mpg would be looking at work-truck level pickups, I'm always surprised at the number of Longhorn-trim Ecodiesels out there.

With all that being said, if they could have got 24-25 mpg and just got the price down a little, they would have sold like hotcakes. Imagine this:

$48k base MSRP, $43k sale price
25 mpg hwy - 19 city
550 ft-lbs of torque
300 horsepower
12,000 lbs towing capacity

That should absolutely be doable with a decent transmission and reasonable profit margins.

This is also 100% true

If you were interested in one you should have shopped them the MSRP wasn't even a starting point they discounted them so heavily. FIL's was a 4x4 xd, not a platinum but isn't a base model either. He paid low 40's out the door. MSRP mean nothing in vehicle pricing.
