I got myself a livescope for Christmas. I must admit that as of this time I am a better fisherman using my old electronics than I am with this new stuff. There will definitely be a learning curve for me. I found myself just sitting and watching the fish on screen. LOL. I've know there are some pretty big hybrids in Bardwell, as I've caught a few of them. I just didn't know how many there are! It is definitely a sight to see.

I'm crazy about crappie fishn for the challenge, I'd be bored with it if I had to fish with ls..... Where's the challenge? Other than lighter pockets? That's just my opinion and I force my beliefs on no one..... Enjoy the catchn either way...

Ok, so I am trying to learn here. I’m assuming the black speckled crappie are black crappie and the greener ones are white?

You would be correct, grout scout

Great question. Can you get around without a car? Sure, but if you can afford it, why would you? It's a lot more efficient, but not required.

Those who are very very skilled, it will have minimal impact. Those who are not as skilled, it will make a significant impact. I'd guess that if you put two equally skilled fishermen in a brand new lake (one with LVS and one without), the LVS fisherman catches more fish more often. That might make a good fun contest.

If I had $3500 to spend, I'd get a $700 boat and GPS trolling motor, and then LVS. Just my opinion.

One 10-pounder is better than ten 1-pounders; but 100 1-pounders is ok too!

Interesting perspective! In fact, that is the exact reason, I first purchased electronics!

Basically, in the old days, it took time, effort, family, and potlicking to learn the crappie holes on a lake. Years, in fact. People routinely fought over fishing holes. Now, thanks to technology, you can unlock the secrets of a lake in short order, depending on the size of the lake, of course. Folks seldom fight over holes anymore, as there are so many that can be unlocked from our electronic gadgets.

Correct. I actually give away some of my fishing holes by showing the backgrounds and even showing on the GPS map. Knowing that if somebody wants to fish it, go ahead. Part of the challenge of having technology is learning to use it to find fish and new structures...... But that's me.

I just bought livescope and still need some time to get it on the water and report back. i have two girls both under age 10. they love fishing but their attention span is almost as short as mine. If i can get them on some fish and keep the action a little hotter, then LS is a small investment in the overall boat investment. it is amazing how controversial this topic is. people who don't have one seem to fall into two categories pretty quick - it is all fishing toys!

having seen lowrance's model of livesight, i don't see the price coming down very quick on the livescope. it is simply in a category all its own.

Yep.. Caught a few today. Only fish finder I use is my fishing rod. Livescope sure would be nice to have though.

I have always felt that being very proficient with my electronics mades me a better fisherman. My electronics allow me to solve problems faster and opens up more of the lake for me. By understanding the conditions and location fish are active I can find more places that share those characteristics and sometimes catch some really nice fish.

Now that I have grandsons that love to fish and who have grown up with technology they seam to enjoy what I call video game fishing. The livescope helps to cut the learning curve for them and allow them to catch a few fish they may not have caught in the past. It also allows for more efficient use of the time I get to spend with them.

So do I need it to catch fish I would say no but I enjoy playing with the technology and learning more about the quarry I am chasing that day. The technology is just another tie that binds me to those little boys that I hope with love and value the time on the water that we all seek.

Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional!

Yesterday I was fishing in a river on top of a brushpile in 16-17 fow from my kayak and 2 guys in a boat pulls up besides me and started fishing. They had livescope and I didn’t. I ended up limiting out while they were still trying to catch their 1st fish. [Linked Image]
