12/26 - 12/31 Flounder Report

We finished off 2019 with a bang!! Flounder gigging was very good this week. Mild temperatures, normal tide levels, and light winds made for some awesome gigging and lots of clear water. Flounder were mostly on mud and sand bottom, and we found better size fish in deeper water far from shore. Flounder size has been impressive for late December, with most in the 15-17" range, and a few each night 19-20". Plenty of black drum and sheepshead around, but most of my customers this week wanted to focus only on flounder.

The flounder numbers and size are looking really good headed into Spring, and the gigging should remain strong through the remainder of Winter, especially on fair weather or warmer nights.

This is the best late December flounder numbers I have seen in 20 years of guiding. I'm not sure why TPWD is saying there is a problem with the flounder population??? From what I'm seeing nightly on the water, 2019-2020 are poised to be the best years for flounder in the last 25 years.

February: 3-6, 10-14, 16-28
March: 1-5, 8-15, 17, 18, 19, 21-27, 29-31
April: 1-3, 5-10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 19-29
