I was wondering about this too. Also, has welsh been generating less this season so far? Seems to be a little cooler than. Usual.

When you get ready to back down the ramp pull up the hill right past the new culvert and get a running start to the water then slam brakes on ( It is important you make sure boat is unlatched). You are good as gold to now go fish. flame

I blew a power head six weeks ago because of the Welsh boat ramp. The dealer told me that the thermostats were blocked open due to trash and tiny pebbles which didn’t let the engine warm up before I got on plane. The pistons need to swell before you head out. Once the new power head was installed he set up my gauges to show the engine temp and taught me how to clean the thermostats. Over the past month of fishing different lakes I have had to clean them five times.

The last time Welsh was real low (maybe 5 or 6 years ago) I sucked in some pebbles at the ramp and they blocked the thermostat on only one side of my Merc. 250 Pro XS. Engine would not go above about 2500 RMP. Mechanic said since one side warmed up fine and the other would not warm up, engine went into a "safe" mode. Cleaned out thermostat and motor was fine. Due to that issue I won't fish Welsh when it is real low.

I understand what y’all are describing but it amazes me that in so many years of fishing, often idling through some really shallow water and often hitting bottom, that this problem has never happened to me. Maybe it’s the high RPM “power loading” when putting boat back on trailer that causes the problem?
