For the last twenty years, I have crappie fished with a hand-controlled Minn Kota. Never used a foot controlled other than when fishing with someone else. The pedal always seemed to be in the way or in the wrong place, thus my choice to go with the hand-controlled. Looking to buy either the Ulterra or Ultrex. It appears that folks who have and are used to the foot control prefer the Ultrex because of the cable steer. Just looking for some opinions, specifically concerning the responsiveness of the Ulterra. Thanks.

I have an ulterra and love it. No heavy lifting, just push a button and it's down. Very responsive. I only use the remote. never take the foot control out of the box. Great for holding with spot lock. No foot control in the way.

Ask me in a month after I install my Ulterra.

I'm a happy fisherman with a Ulterra...... Launching can't get any easier..... Deploy and stow is a tremendous ease on the back....

Ulterra Hands Down. Only use the remote. Never used the Foot Pedal.

I've had my Ulterra since August...and love it. I've been a foot-control guy for the last 20 years, and now I use the remote and spot lock a lot more than the actual pedal.

Launching the boat just like the commercial is SOOOOOO nice! I even put the boat back on the trailer last time out with the trolling motor.

Auto stow/deploy is GREAT vs pulling up/down many times across the course of a day.

I’ve had to help enough people with their ulterras over the last couple of years to scare me away from one. My ultrex has fouled up on me several times but I have never had to call someone to help me get it stowed so I could get my boat on the trailer. If you aren’t physically able to pull a trolling motor out or need a 60” shaft on a deep v I totally understand the purpose.

There is a release on the Ulterra for instances you describe Cameron.

Like anything you definitely need to know how it works.

What we did was mount ours using the Lift Save Trolling Motor Mount by Ron Duran/Blue Nitro.

If something happened where it got stuck four bolts and the motor comes right off the bow with Ron's Mount.

We keep a tool kit in the boat.

Never had to use it.

I bet there is a video on you tube for that manual release.

I love my Ulterra had it a year and works perfect. Especially when by myself and launch boat just like in commercial. I use remote from back seat of my boat because I only have one transducer and its on the back of course. No rope pulling to raise motor. Spot lock great for crappie fishing. The foot control is great when I use it but mostly use the remote. Can also control it from my Helix 10 G2 if I want to.

I use an Ultrex. Using the IPilot hand control and watching the screens of my console mounted Lowrance's, I steer from the seat position and fish from there. And I have a 12" Helix in front which I turn so I can see it from the seat. Now I'm about to purchase a fishing rigged pontoon boat and I think I'm going to put an Ulterra on the bow. I think the auto deploy would be sweet.

I've had my Ulterra since 2017 and had 2 issues. First was problem with my batteries and the 2nd was a tech at minnkota accidentally dropped a washer in the motor housing causing it to jam while the boat was floating away from me ...But after that it has been really a great tool to launch and catch more crappie off brushpiles and timber...Absolutely love my Ulterra and yes I also had to manually stow it back once..LOL.

Ulterra all the way. I’ve had back surgery and I’m not quite as young as I used to be. It is so nice not having to reach down to lift the trolling motor. If you already prefer hand control vs foot control, it’s an easy choice.

I just put an Ulterra on my boat and have used it about 4 times. I love everything about it EXCEPT that the 45" is too short for my boat. The 45" really has only about 36-37" of usable shaft length because of the way the control housing for the auto deploy/stow is made. In choppy water, the prop comes out of the water.

I have a Champion bass boat and it is 20" from the top of the deck at front to the water in calm water with one guy on the front of the boat and one on the back. Since this motor does not come in a 52" like all the other Minn Kota's do, I thought I could make do with the 45". My old motorguide was 42" and never came out of the water. Ulterra is great when the water is not choppy, Should have bought the 60"

In fact, I am planning to sell this one and buy a 60" or trade for a 60". I love everything else about it.
