Almost sounds like his monitor wasn't working or something. Your ear has to hear the pitch for the voice to at least come out in the 1st, 3rd or 5th.  I have jammed with some folks who really are tone deaf and fail to realize it when they sing, of course we are nice about it and don't say anything negative, but inside you are going "oh boy". Phenomenal instrumentalists but hopefully they realize sometime that they can't sing. We had a bass player once that wanted to harmonize on every song. It would make paint peel.

Hank III couldn't sing when he came out and still can't sing. Lucas Nelson isn't much better.
