..............mind blown..............
The reason I did the mono leader (used about 20-30 feet) was mainly for finger protection as I have read a lot of posts of the braid cutting. Maybe this is not true with the amount of weight we are using? Maybe I’ll try one of our setups with just straight braid next time

Also curious about reading the surf properly. The bars are determined by the waves showing white caps and getting larger and the “calmer” parts will be ruts or down slopes of bars?

We were trying to cast into the pools that looked the calmest the longest. We ran into TONS of vegetation while fishing as well even one time thinking we had a big fish on it because the waves were cracking against the vegetation stuck to our line lol[/quote]

Braid will cut you. I use to tape my finger but now I have a glove that just covers one finger. Depending on what month you go the sea weed can be terrible, sometimes un fishable.

go to ebay type in one finger fishing glove

I think you can get sea weed in any month but the worst I've seen was during the summer when we use to fish down on PINS. We mostly just fish sept. oct. and nov. sometime we go in August if you can catch a flat surf
and fish for trout. We catch a lot of these in the fall.

That's a bull redfish over 28". We release all bulls and only keep the slot ones 20" to 28". We use cut mullet and cut whitting for bait.

BTW in the picture the white water that goes all the way across the picture that is the first bar.

Awesome! We are looking at practicing our casting as we are a bit inept in distance casting and my good ol roll cast is useless when lugging our there in the surf lol.

What size hooks do you use for the reds? We been using 4/0 for whitings and I think I have two packs of 7/0 circle offset.
