How old is too old? Boat hasn't been used for a while and has about 20 gallons of treated ethanol gas that is about 6 months old.

If treated with Stabil or similar, it will be fine.

Smell it. When it goes bad it begins to smell like whiskey a little.

i'd get out as much as possible and burn in your vehicle and start the year off with fresh fuel in the boat

I would drain the tank shelf life for gas is 6-8 weeks. It want burn as good as fresh and I wouldn't try to put new gas on top of old. That's like you have a half gallon of milk that bad and putting a half gallon of fresh milk on top my question is would you drink it.

Exactly, I would drain it and mix it with fresh gas in my truck.....as long as it isn't premix!

That is E85. Problem I have with my current boat is a 95 gallon tank. I run it as low as I dare then start carrying portable containers. I have run a couple of trips last year and this year with the gauge sitting on E. I would really like to know how much is left when I get to E. I run ethanol free in it.

Just put in as much new fuel as you can along with a can of sea foam. You will be fine.

I ran my boat yesterday for the first time in over 6 months. It started and ran just fine on the "old" gas.

my boat once sat for over a year as things were happening in life. when it came time to run the boat i just filled it up with new gas. Had about 3/4 of a tank of gas in there. Started it up and just ran it.

Depends on how it is stored. Full tank, treated, indoor storage you will suffer some octane loss and that is about all. If you are worried burn 5 or more gallons and add fresh gas to it. May be some moisture but nothing a fuel line separator can't handle. EFI can handle this situation better then a Carb motor. So it all depends on the factors. I would say you are good to go.
