Got out and power drifted this morning for 3 hrs. Bait was thick in 30ft but had to scan 3 or 4 areas hard before I could find the right bait. Lewisville is chuck full of nursery cats and you really gotta be careful on what you throw on out deep right now or the tiny cats can ruin your trip before you ever get a line wet. Went back to where I been catching good fish and they were still fairly close the where they have been in 23ft. Dropped some magnum sized baits on em and had one hooked up in about 15 minutes. First fish of the day 33 lbs. Got about halfway through my first drift and 2 planer rods get slammed, Fish on!. Before I can get the first fish in my other 2 planer rods go down hard! Quadruple takedown! I jumped on each rod and made sure the fish were hooked up good before bringing em in one at a time...Got the first 2 in no problem but the last 2 had crossed and we’re twisted. It was total chaos but luckily was able to get all 4 in the boat for my best 4 fish takedown to date. 4 fish 90 lbs.

Lewisville is a tough lake for big fish that’s for sure. It chuck full of dinks though! The big fish are there but they are hard to stay on. If I can fish it a couple of times a week I usually stay on em better. If I only get to fish every other week I usually spend half my trip scanning. One thing is for sure, if you can locate big fish on Lewisville then it makes finding big fish on other lakes much easier.

I threw onto small cats at tawakoni recently. Its a mess to get out of a net. How do you tell if its small cats or shad to throw on? Do you have any graph pics you cant post to tell the difference in the 2?

It was awesome Matt!! You can usually tell if they are baby cats by the return they give on 2d...on side image they look just like gizzard shad but on 2d they give an inverted check mark instead of a rounded return like gizzards. I still miss ID them occasionally. Here is a good example of what some guys might throw on and there are some shad and other fish in there too but I guarantee you it would be a nightmare dropping on this. These cats are 4-12” I’d guess. I crank up the sensitivity if I think they are tiny cats so I can get a little harder return.

Here is a good example of good gizzards...there are some sandbass and cats on the outskirts but the center mass is all gizzards. Notice how they are more rounded on the return. If you throw on the edges you’ll catch some sandies but if you drop it on center of mass it will be mostly gizzards.
