I just picked up a 2006 ZX 225, it has not been used much in last 3 years if at all. I want to take the boat in to a mechanic and have them do a check/change of all the filters, clean the fuel tanks, water pump, etc. it’s a Yamaha V Max HPDI 225. Is there anything else that you guys would do to the motor before you take it to the lake and run the P out of it? I am located in Cresson and prefer to stay within a reasonable distance of here.
Disclaimer...I have previous history with this boat as I was with my buddy when he bought it in 2006. I have fished out of it many times. He kept up with maintenance until about 3 years ago when his job and a baby and life kinda changed his habits. The motor fired right up on the first turn of they key when I drove down to pick it up. I didn’t run it but about 10 seconds with water muffs on.
Mods can move this if it’s in the wrong area
Just trying to remember to turn my lights off backing down the ramp!

My biggest concern would be 3 year old gas. I would ask your buddy what type of gas he put in it last, hopefully it was ethanol free, either way I would get the tank drained and start with fresh gas. Being from Longview I can't recommend a shop up there, but CONGRATULATIONS on your new to you boat. Enjoy.

The boat will need a full service. It will also need ALL filters replaced (3 in the motor and maybe one in the bilge). The fuel tanks will need to be thouroghly cleaned. Injectors may need cleaning. The bad thing is the fuel will eat up the filter media and clog up injectors.
I, not too long ago, went through this same thing. A 2003 with 42 hours. Spent right at $800 on the fuel system stuff. Then another $1400 on all new batteries. Another $2800 on a trolling motor, then $4000 on electronics. Then new interior (the old one looked great, but accelerated wear from age). Add in another $1000 for miscellaneous stuff that simply broke due to age (switches, cables, bunjies, lid latches, etc). It actually might have been less expensive to buy a brand new, bigger boat. But, I now have a GREAT boat. You are still onenup on me. You know the original owner and the history of the boat.
Good luck and congrats!

Mods can move this if it’s in the wrong area Filters, fuel tanks, water pump, lower unit oil.... fill it up with gas and some sea foam and get it!
