Jc’s Sportfishing Weekly Fish Report.
As the Admiral Seas It
Fishing Report: 12/29/19 to 01/4/20
Stop by Our Office for up to Date Fishing Report
We didn’t have trips on Jan 1st.

This week has slowed down, few being caught off the Light House on live bait and lures.
We caught: 2 marlines on Sunday, 1 marline and 1 spearfish on Tuesday.

Has been some of the best I have seen in years, very nice size fish 15lbs to 25lbs; lots of fish coming down as the water cools off north of Cabo. We have had our best luck at Rancho Migrino and Los Arcos, most of the fish are been caught on lures and live bait.
We caught: 16 dorados on Sunday, 9 on Monday, 17 on Tuesday, 20 on Thursday, 21 on Friday and 32 on Saturday.

Was pretty good the first of the week, footballs out about 16 miles on the 1150 and south of the San Jaime Banks on king busters and cedar plugs. Not big schools, last few days has been very slow.
We caught: 1 tuna on Sunday, 5 on Tuesday and 6 on Thursday.

Not great this week, just a couple caught on our boats on rapalas, jet heads small fish.
We caught 1 wahoo on Thursday.

Starting to show up, very good as the schools move through Rancho Migrino on hoochies.
We caught: 13 sierras on Monday.

Jc’s Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have a memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Well let’s get on with the fishing report for this past week.

WEATHER: The outlook for Cabo San Lucas in the two weeks ahead shows the average daytime maximum temperature will be around 27°C, with a high for the two weeks of 28°C expected on the afternoon of Tuesday 14th. The average minimum temperature will be 17°C, dipping to its lowest on the morning of Sunday 5th at 15°C. The next 14 days will remain predominantly dry. On the whole winds are likely to be light.

From The Admirals Kitchen!
Serves 4.

1 medium lemon
4 (4 to 6-ounce) mahi mahi fillets
1 1/4 teaspoons kosher salt, plus more as needed
Freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 clove garlic, minced
4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into 4 pieces
1 tablespoon coarsely chopped fresh parsley leaves

1. Slice and juice the lemon. Cut half the lemon into thin slices. Juice the remaining half, you should have about 1 1/2 tablespoons of juice; set both aside.

2. Season the mahi mahi. Pat the mahi mahi dry with paper towels. Season all over with 1 teaspoon of the salt and a few grinds of pepper.

3. Pan sear the mahi mahi. Heat the oil in a large cast iron skillet or nonstick frying pan over medium-high heat until just starting to smoke, 3 to 5 minutes. Add the mahi mahi and sear undisturbed until well browned on the bottom and the sides are cooked just past halfway up the fillets, about 4 minutes. Flip the fillets and continue to sear until just cooked through and the flesh flakes easily, 2 to 4 minutes more depending on the thickness of the fillets. Transfer to a serving platter.

4. Add the lemon juice and garlic over medium-low heat. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the lemon juice, garlic, and remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt. Scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon.

5. Add the lemon slices and butter. Add the lemon slices, then stir the butter in one piece at a time, waiting until each piece is almost melted before adding the next.

6. Season the sauce. Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in the parsley. Taste the sauce and season with more salt and pepper and needed. Pour over the mahi mahi and serve immediately.

Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container up to 2 days.

The Blue Lagoon Cocktail Drink

1 ounce vodka
1 ounce curacao
4 ounces lemonade
Crushed ice

1. Add the vodka and curacao to a shaker with ice. Shake until the shaker is cold to the touch.

2. Place the crushed ice in the glass. Pour the mixture over the ice.

3. Top with the lemonade.

BEWARE: Please beware of the guys in the street selling boat charters. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs? You don't want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking, your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of a fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in the next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon. Come by the office here in Cabo and get all the latest up to date fishing report.
