1st bait somehow what looks like lent stuck to a bait that I then ruined by rubbing with my shirt.

Then said no worries I’ll do two others. This paint is for soft plastics, but like how it looks. It is fairly sticky. Then my blue explodes on the 1st bait. I thinned my paint, and thinned my paint. It still wouldn’t shoot right. I proceeded to change air brushes to one with a larger needle. Thought I had it then went to try the second fresh clean bait, and it exploded all over it to. This pic isn’t as bad as the first one.

I thought oh well chalk it up as a loss and just lay some opaque white and start over. Cool I can do this! This stupid white paint blows thick snot rockets all over the bait. Making me shake my head and throw my hands up in frustration to say I’m done for the night. Airbrushes will be broken down and soaking until tomorrow if I’ve cooled off by then.

I can’t say I’ve had this many problems since I’ve started painting. For new people painting most things can be fixed or worked over. Keep your brushes clean which I hope is my problem and start fresh tomorrow as I am done for the night! Sorry for the rant.....

I don’t see anything wrong with the second and third ones and I’m sure at speed and 15’ deep bass won’t either! thumb thumb

What would a starter set up run? It looks like something that would be fun. I just don’t think I have the artistic ability though.

You can get a kit from Masters that has all you need to start for under $200. It has airbrush, hose, compressor, two sets of paint etc. this is how I started with a lot of YouTube. It really isn’t that hard to paint, and is quite rewarding. I would recommend upgrading airbrushes pretty quick once you realize you can do this. The Masters brush is just fine to begin with. I still use the same hose and compressor, but now have two Iwata brushes. I’m more than happy to help if needed.

They will definitely be sanded tonight. Last night was just one train wreck after another.

Tommar, this is what I bought to get started, and you can probably find it on Amazon. It really has everything you need to start painting. You don’t have to use an “airbrush air compressor” if you already own a compressor. You just need to make sure it has a water separator depending on your areas humidity, and a regulator. you can find hoses and airbrushes cheap at Harbor Freight as well to get started. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks, Matt. I have too many other hobbies and projects though as is! roflmao

Do you do this for fun or business? I’d like a couple done with a custom decorative paint job.

Turn the fail into a positive, you just made a new color, you can call it "The Mistake".

I feel to much pressure to do re-paints for other people. Different planks take paint differently, and I’m probably my own worst critic. I would hate to take your cherished baits and produce something you wouldn’t like. I did re-sand and paint the the on from the other night. It took a lot of sanding but got it done.

In reality the fish probably don’t care if it’s just plain wood color, but I’ve put a lot of time into producing these blanks and hate it when it not to my liking. The final product ended up pretty nice, but would have preferred it to have happened the first go around.

Just some thoughts from a car painter for many years.......

Snot balls are either a dirty gun, paint too thick, or not enough air pressure.

The "lint" looks like you are dry spraying. In other words, too far away from the work and the paint is drying too fast instead of flowing.

Just my thoughts ......

Thanks Hair Jig, I think it was a combination of all three. I think I had a dirty brush which was my main problem. Then the white paint I’ve been using I think has gone bad as it kinda looked like spoiled milk. I had my air pressure as high as my little compressor would go, but with the dirty brush and paint it was just a no go. So both brushes got a thorough cleaning and will be picking up some new white paint. As Bob Ross would say they look like happy splatters.
