I’ve heard this line is really abrasion resistant and tough as nails. Does that mean you can downsize quite a bit and fish 10 lb. CXX instead of where you’d usually fish 15lb. Or 17 lb.?

Yes I would not use anything more than 12lb CXX as mainline. It has bad memory above 12lb test; so I use it for leaders. I really like the 12lb CXX—it has the same diameter of other brands 14lb test 40lb PP braid to 6ft leader of 12lb CXX is what I use for deep diving crankbaits This set up has always done well for me; even getting two huge gator gars to the kayak For trig, jigs, and pitching I like 50lb PP braid to 6ft leader of 17lb CXX. This is probably over doing it for most situations, and could easily go down to 15lb CXX leaders for trig and pitching (maybe even 12)

I made the mistake of getting a 600 yd roll of 17lb CXX thinking it would work as a mainline. Even after spraying it with line conditioner it was so coiled you had to be throwing over 1/2oz lures to get it to straighten out. And if you ever get hung up, its like trying to break braid. It is tough stuff, but I would say the line strength is easily double what they say.

Memory above 12 lb is really bad but the stuff is tough. As mentioned above breaking off if your hung up can be a challenge.

i prefer the cx premium, very strong like cxx, way lower memory, smaller diameter than most and fluoro coated. also comes in fluoro/clear blue for hi vis or blacklight fishing at night. I use the 15# in place of others 20lb at places like Fork.

I just caught an 8lb bass on 8lb CXX and a few other decent sized bass. The line is a year old and I’ve been very impressed.

Using CXX can be hazardous to your line management habits. You get used to just putting on a fresh leader the day before and not having to retie when on the water; then, if you use something else because it was on sale/highly recommended, you might have your first break off in years.

I use 15lb CXX as a mainline on two rods. I don't experience memory problems any more than with fluoro. It's tough stuff. Lasts all season. Doesn't need to be babied like fluoro.
8lb on a few other rods. Acts like 12lb.
Great leader for soft swimbaits. Just enough stretch to absorb shock. I use 20lb. Stiff as wire.
CX Premium is softer, and better for lighter lures, but doesn't last near as long.

used 20# cxx for tarpon in costa rica with a 100# leader, great line imo.
