Well, it's new for me anyways.

So these are my most recent attempts at Gunnar Brammer's Chosen One fly (check youtube, there's a bunch of tutorials). They're both about 5" long. I've been working on getting this pattern to come together for me off and on for a couple months and these are the first ones I've been actually happy with the outcome.

The fly itself is just squimpish hair (long craft fur, basically), flash, peacock herl, and strung fuzzy fiber (similar to SF fibers, but with a more matte finish). Hook in this case is a 1/0 B10S. The dubbing loop head is kind of tricky to get right, especially without a rotary, and both portions of squimpish are reverse tied a la Popovics, though that's actually pretty easy with craft fur. It's much harder with bucktail.

Anyways, I understand the idea for this variant of the pattern is to represent some of the more round profile baitfish like mullet. Though you can also do a version where you squish it together and put some eyes on to get a more shad-like shape.

Anyways, we'll have to see how they fish. I think it could be really good for Jacks when they're in, or stripers when they're in a more aggressive mood.

Looks good. Bet they push a ton of water and will grab some attention.

Going the other direction entirely I did a couple of Cowen’s baitfish

Top two are mine, bottom is commercial.

SF blend on top, flash n slinky on the bottom, craft fur tail.

Looking good. I need to check both of those out. That Cowen’s looks like a great tilapia or bluegill type.
