So, I am gonna' open a can of worms.
Looking at trolling motors that have the anchor feature on them and would like opinions on where to spend my $$$.
Boat is a 21' Polar Kraft semi V. Used for fishing bays, lakes and rivers.
Thoughts on Minn Kota vs MotorGuide.....or something else?
Thanks,
sb

Well...as of right now, if you need anything longer than 47ā, you're going to an ultrex or terrova. The MG Xi5 might have a longer shaft, but Iām not sure.

The MG Xi5 comes in shaft lengths up to 72". I've had mine now for 3 years and no complaints.

What species of fish are you fishing? What brand of electronics is on the boat? Are you wanting the Go-To and Follow the contour features Linked to said electronics? Your boat will require a 60" minimum length shaft. This will eliminate the Garmin Force and Lowrance Ghost motors narrowing your options to Minn Kota and MotorGuide. I would be happy to put together some pricing for you.

What species of fish are you fishing? We fish for sheephead, trout and reds in saltwater. Bass, white bass and striper in fresh.....would love to find a place to catch crappie!
What brand of electronics is on the boat? Lowrance Hook-boat is else where, so I texted my old man to send me the model....but it was installed last Christmas. NO side scan.....
Are you wanting the Go-To and Follow the contour features Linked to said electronics? I am woefully ignorant about this stuff....I would welcome the reasoning for WHY/HOW about this feature.

I would be happy to put together some pricing for you. That would be great...would love to include some education in using sonar and said trolling motor.
Thanks,
Sean Berry

Most often overlooked is the most efficient way to fish and that is utilizing total boat control. i-Pilot is a great tool to hold you when fishing a specific spot such as submerged timber, underwater humps, brush piles, etc... Another tool often overlooked is the Go-To feature. If you have your trolling motor "Linked" to your compatible graph you can tell the trolling motor to head to a said waypoint and when it arrives the trolling motor will gently anchor the boat in that position or the Follow the Contour feature. Never will you have to drive over your fishing spot spooking away the fish you intended to catch. Humminbird is to Minn Kota as Lowrance is to MotorGuide.
It sounds like the electronics on your boat are not compatible units to link them to a trolling motor. With Minn Kota, the i-Pilot and i-Pilot Link motors both have the same anchor "spot lock". The link is what connects the "compatible" graph to the trolling motor. If all you are wanting is the anchor "spot lock" then the i-Pilot will be all you need. The MotorGuide will require the Sonar/GPS Pinpoint model as well as the Gateway Kit and NMEA starter kit to "Link" the compatible graph to the trolling motor. MotorGuide will anchor "spot lock" without the gateway and NMEA starter kit if you do not want to link the graph to the trolling motor.
If you are fishing mainly open waters then the Minn Kota Terrova or MotorGuide Xi5 will suit your needs. If you are fishing standing timber and or bridge pillings then the Minn Kota Ultrex or the MotorGuide Tour Pro will be your best choice. The Terrova and Xi5 are "Electric Steer" trolling motors and are not as responsive and the Minn Kota Ultrex or MotorGuide Tour Pro which are "Cable Steer" trolling motors.
Hopefully, this will give you a little more insight as to what you are going to want in a trolling motor. Let me know which brand/model you would like a quote on and I will shoot ya a PM.

I just installed the garmin force on my champion 202, the 57" is about the same as a 60" minnkota.
