I got my first “real” boat this year and cant seem to put fish in it wihout archery equipment. Looking for a little guidance on how to get some catfish in the live well this time of the year. Numbers, or size i dont care i just need slime on me! Sunday looks like it will be a great day to launch.

Thanks in advance.

I am not sure how you like to fish but there is plenty of options on Livingston . A friend did pretty good fishing a creek mouth in less than 5 ft. the other day and we are catching fish drifting in 20-40 ft .
There is miles of river channel you can anchor up on the edge of and plenty of flooded timber areas that should hold fish , find areas holding Shad and you should be able to catch a few . Fresh Shad or cut bait fish would be the best bait . PM if you like and I will help you with what I can .
The wind direction and speed go into my plan on where to launch some of the ramps are bad if the wind is wrong . I Boats has a pretty good free map charts I use a lot to preplan and locate structure I may want to fish or the Navionics Boating app .

I have access to the private ramp near beacon bay across the street from the wet deck. It sounds like i need to be on the opposite side of the lake up near the river. Its a big lake and im new to navigating it. In the past we just trolled white bass around pine island. The weather app i use expects a 7mph ssw wind on sunday with 10mph gusts.

We have caught some good fish drifting Beacon Bay Area back towards Tigerville . Try drifting over the Lump also .
The river channel runs between Beacon Bay and Pine Island . Plenty of good fishing close to you.

Dewayne is feeding you some solid info on open forum. I’d take his advice but take that info and get a lake map to get more familiar. Sharing info on good spots is very generous. Good luck! I hear that lake is a heck of cat lake.

Lake Livingston is my "home" one. I can only add to the previous posts that under good conditions (warmer weather, moderate south wind), cat fishing is always productive at morning time in shallow water close to the banks that "meet" a south wind. Probably, this wind concentrates plankton/shad in these areas, while blue cats and and whites follow shad. In this case, you can find many cats between boathouses. Drifting is also good option if you cannot find cats close to the bank but do not drift in very deep areas far from the banks and humps.

Throw out range cubes in 3-4 places. Go back to first place and start fishing move from spot to spot when the bite gets slow. This should get you numbers but prolly not size.

When Dewayne speaks, listen... He is one of the best catfisherman in that area. He is giving you very solid, reliable info on Livingston.

Thank everyone for confirming my original thoughts. When I made this thread, I was hoping Dewayne would reply based on the Livingston search I did before posting smile

My buddy and I hit the lake Sunday and finally had some mild success. We launched from Broken Arrow Marina around noon and headed out to the lake. I've never gone to the lake from Broken Arrow and learned a quick lesson...There are a few shallow spots when going out to the lake. Within 5 minutes I found myself very shallow. I'm in a 2072 Seaark tunnel hull with a 3* V, float pods and a jack plate so shallow water wasn't the issue. While reversing out of a situation I bumped a submerged stump and took out my dang transducer!

We found the markers for the channel shortly after taking out my transducer which gave me a little comfort. My depth finder was based on the Navonics card, and my fish finder was dead. We went to the north side of the big 190 bridge and found a Navonics 30' deep spot on the west bank in the channel. We picked up 1 small keeper on liver in an hour. The wind/current put us on top of a 11' flat that didn't seem to end (according to Navonics).

We eventually found a 30'-15' area (navonics) on the SW side of 190 about 2 miles south of the bridge. We picked up 5 more good keepers drifting through that area. We threw the buffet at them. I'm a bowfisher and my buddy is a bank fisher so dragging was new to us (and a lake this big is a little overwhelming). We learned a TON! if we learn as much as we did in our next 3 trips we might do damage.

We threw chicken liver, chicken hearts, and store bought shad from walmart leaders on 2oz weights. We caught one on liver and the rest on heart. Here is the biggest, but the others behind were not bad at all.

We learned a lot more, but this post has already gone too long!

Great story and photo! Next time try to purchase nightcrawlers at Walmart. If I do not have fresh shad, I use them. They work good in shallow water between boathouses. Chicken liver and chicken hearts are not very good baits for blues. Good luck.

Great story keep at it . Being a bow fisherman you should freeze some carp , I prefer them under 5 pounds .

that gives me an excuse to hop on trinity and do some population control smile does anyone in the area need carp and gar as fertilizer? Here is the actual catch of the day. We had a few a little smaller than this one.

back at work with dual monitors so i'm not having to flip back and forth between maps and forum suggestions on a little phone screen. The iboat map works much better on a desktop!

We were working with #5/0 offset circle hooks. It seemed like we started having more success using larger cuts of bait, but our bait size was limited by the hook size. Is this a fair observation, or should i stick with the #5/0. I might be headed back to livingston this weekend to do some maintenance on my mom's house and wouldn't mind putting some more time in on the lake if i get the chance.

Kentucky rig with a slip bobber and two J-like hooks #1/0-4/0 works well for me in the majority of cases. Dropper loops allow quick changing hooks according to shad size I have.
