As I'm sure many of you who are planning a trip to Toledo Bend this spring have wondered, I was curious what the status of the dam/spillway repairs. Originally, I read the repairs were to be completed by late November or early December. I wasn't able to find an update in any of the local publications so I went to my local trusted source of information. He said that he spoke with an SRA representative who told him the first inspection was performed on 12/18/19. The final inspection was scheduled for January 23rd. Assuming the are no delays or additional repairs needed, SRA should start bringing the lake level back up in February.

While I believe the long term effects from the extended drawdown will be positive, we could be in for a rough spawn. Toledo has the ability to catch a lot of water in February/March. As we've seen at my home Lake Ivie, a sudden rise in water level can spread the bass out making the fishing tough. On a positive note, I believe this should be just the recipe to allow the grass to recover and develop in deeper areas. My bass buddies and I traditionally plan our annual trip in late February/early March. Many in my group are nervous about the water level/fishing conditions.

I'm curious how my TFF brethren see the spring fishing shaping up given the updated time frame for completing the repairs and subsequent re-fill of the lake. This will be my 22nd year for this trip so I have seen the lake at all different levels and conditions. Personally, I want to give it a go, but my buddies want to try Rayburn this year.

I'm sure Toledo well crank out the bags this year. Been on the lake several times when it was lower in the past.

As a shallow water guy I'm fired up about it... it may suck the first week or two that the lake comes up but once it stabilizes HOLD ON!

It'll get wrecked by team Ziplock even more so than the past couple years with higher water. The bags will be decent only cause the fish will be absolutely packed into fewer places. They'll be spawning in the middle of pockets and bare banks. If you thought the last few summers were bad, just wait...

I hope the lake stays low for another year or two. It's been so much slower the last couple of years. With the hydrilla almost non existent, it would do some good to let the shoreline cover grow for awhile. Maybe TPWD can even keep the grass spraying boats off the lake.

I'm torn about it. Some time low will do it good but i agree with Latta too, easy pickens for the catch 2 or 3 limits a day crowd

I fish Toledo every week and I agree with this gentleman 100%. The lake has fished very poor this year
