In preparation for Y2K, our church encouraged everyone to read thru the Bible in 1999. Wife and I signed up as did our 8 & 9 year old daughter and son. To help them and encourage each other, we decided to read together as a family.

So, we sat down as a family and took turns reading. When we had plans (vacation, out of town visitors, etc) we would read ahead so we didn’t get behind.

On December 31, 1999 just before midnight, we read the last couple of chapters of Revelation. Really cool to do that as a family. Really brought us closer to each other and the Lord.

This is the least surprising thing I've ever read on this forum

I was tasked with convincing the corporate staff that our main system wouldn’t crash at midnight. I promised them it would not be affected. They wanted a letter on letterhead from me for evidence. I gave it to them. The body of the letter contained three words that proved I was right.

‘We run UNIX.’

I never heard another word.

My boss had the only Windows PC in the company at the time. He was the CFO and need accounting software. He wanted me to also prove it to him. I told him to set his date to 12/31/99 and his time to 23:56. He said ok that’s done. I told him to call me back in 5 minutes. He never called back.

They never believed anything I told them but they believed everything their AOL buddies said.

Have you rubbed that in their faces ever since? You should send them an email to remind them. Never let them forget.

Actually had to replace a wireless telecommunications switch that wasn't Y2k compliant in 2001. They had to keep rolling the dates back for it

But I made a lot of money off the Y2K preppers. Miss those guys!

Was a Jr. at OU and we were play Ole Miss in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport. Was praying the OU servers would crash so wouldn’t have to tell my parents how bad that year was academically. I remember my grandpa removed all of his money out of the bank. Man time flies

I was in hospital IT as well. Yes, we had to perform some vendor related software updates, but nothing serious. The corporate bigwigs were in panic mode and demanded we produce some end of the world documentation. The IT manager said his plan was to watch New Zealand ring in the New Year on TV which gave the hospital 24 hours notice of any forthcoming disaster.
