Exactly how dirty my reels get just riding on the deck while trailering. Wow! I typically do not use my rod boxes, and keep 8 rods up top. My boat lives in the garage so I've never given it much thought. My question is, will reel covers be worth the effort and small investment? Ready to hit it hard in 2020. See ya on the water folks.

If your reason is too keep your reels from getting dirty, then I would think the reel covers are NOT worth it. I have a reel cover on all my reels, but my reasons are for re-sale of those reels by limiting cosmetic flaws. I have not noticed a reduced about of dirt, or limited cleanings. The only time my reel covers are not on is when the reel is on the deck, on the water. All reels travel in the rod locker with covers on.
I am not sure why, but lately I have been getting agitated by the process of the reel covers too. Just something about the extra that never bothered for years but has started too recently. I dont buy and sale equipment as much this past year as I had previously so I am losing a little interest in extra effort.
Also, TW has changed their reel covers (which are the best covers out there) recently and I dont particularly like the change.

I said in another thread that when you consider all of the dust and dirt that gets thrown up into the air when trailering it HAS to be detrimental to the reels at some point.
Put them in the rod box. Takes less than a minute or two .

Rod box is easier than reel covers and works better to keep cleaner, reel covers are good for preventing cosmetic damage...

West Texas dirt makes its way into everything. Good reason to make reel maintenance a winter project. It usually makes the wife grumpy when I leave it on one end of the table for a couple of weeks.. Amazing how much smoother they work after a good cleaning and oiling.

Not meant to be smart but honestly I can pull them out the box made just for them “ROD BOX” faster than I could mess with reel covers.

Reel covers will not keep the dirt out but I use them in my rod locker. I found they will bump around in there a lot and I want to keep the chips and scratches to a min.
