Myself and fishing buddy Rick aka Catyakker took a trip to Castell Texas and fished the Llano River. We fished after the stocking day. We pulled up to our fishing spot right at daylight. The first cast with a Gold Super Duper was a BINGO. Caught a 10" Rainbow Trout. We fished from 7am till about 10am and caught about 50 nice Rainbow Trout between us. We kept 10 for the frying pan. Fish were found in deep pockets at the end and start of rapids. Gold Super Super Dupers were the only bait used. A GREAT TIME fishing in Castell Texas with the Catyakker. It just don't get any better!

After listening to Banker telling me about Castell trout stocking for the past year, I could hardly wait, and I surely was not disappointed. Wow, most every cast produced a trout of the quality I've never seen at other trout stockings. All fat and super sassy. Even saw a local on the bridge who stopped by to feed the trout three different times while we were there. A long drive for certain, but well worth the adventure. Oh my goodness, the death star has taken over. Catyakker, the great fly fisherman, using a spinning reel and super dupers to catch trout. Darth Vador, aka Chuck, has now fully converted you to the dark side master

Castell is a great out of the way place to visit especially if you can go Monday thru Thursday.

Banker, I'm convinced that gold #502's are all I need to have in my pocket when I can fish close to stocking day! I do have a few silver 501's that I need to try with a little extra weight so I can cast them.

Looks like a fun day. If you wanna stick with the buggy whip when they are taking super dupers hand over fist a #10-#12 Alexandra classic wet fly is the way to go. My little creek gets its dose of stockers tomorrow. I'll be up there amongst the crowds I guess.

I fished that area several years ago. Waded the river using my fly rod and had a ball catching small bass and numerous bluegill. It was summertime and the water was very clear. The fish were dressed up in their best colors.

Thanks Chuck. I really wanted to fish that stocking but could not get the time. Instead was catching those crappie. Next year for sure I will make it up there!
