OK I know this may sound really weird but I haven't thrown an A-Rig...ever!
I have the rig setup and boot tails and rod. I have no idea what reel speed to use.
I have heard 5:1,6.4:1 and so on. I am not intending to start a heated debate just would like some input.

Thanks Warren

I’ve been throwing it all day for the past couple weeks and have no issue on a 7:1 but I’m fishing it shallow. For deep water a slower ratio probably would help keep it in the strike zone.

Just don’t expect it to be a miracle bait. When they are eating it nothing beats it but just like anything else they don’t always want it.

You're going to hate it, a lot. Until that first time you catch 3 or 4 fish on one cast.

[censored] I even threw it into a school of sandbass the other month and didn't get a bite even though I was getting bit every cast on my square bill. I haven't fished it a lot, but never gotten a bite.

Any reel speed will work. I depends on you. If you're like me and have to be always moving then the slower the better. If you're someone that can watch paint dry then it won't matter. I can't slow my winding speed down far enough to work an A-Rig using high speed reels without getting bored and giving up.

Nice set of Brownies.
I don't expect any lure to be the miracle lure ( except maybe dynamite)...LOL
I just have never fished them is all. I know some use flouro and some use braid.
Going to give a whirl this weekend.

I use a 5.4-1 Lews Super Duty when throwing a 5 wire A rig.
