I have an old 150hp Merc Blk Max XR4 motor that still runs strong However I`ve noticed lately at low enging rpm`s there is a hard kicking noise coming from the lower unit when I give it throttle. It goes away after a few seconds.I`ve never hit a stump or anything but I`ve checked the lower unit visually and found no cracks or damage.Does anyone have any idea what could be going on?

Have you checked the grease in the lower unit? If so did it have metal in it?
