Only in the GREAT STATE of TEXAS could you catch in the same day Rainbow Trout, Large Mouth Bass, Bluegill, Redbreast, Rios, and Hybrid Sunfish. Myself and good friend Steve fished both a South Central Texas Creek and a Hill Country River and the winter bite was FANTASTIC! During the morning we fished the river and caught some Rainbow Trout. The trout were staged by currents. Berkely Power Trout Bait,Yellow in color was the bait used. We then headed to the creek and the caught over 75 fish. Redbreast in the 9 to 10 inch range, Large Mouth Bass in the one to two pound range, Hybrid Sunfish in the 9 to 10 inch range, Bluegill in the 7 to 9 inch range, and some Rios in the 9 inch range. Fish were caught using the "Bait of Champions" Worms. Fish were in 6 to 8 feet of water holding by overhanging tree limbs. We released a bunch and Steve kept some for the frying pan. Fishing a winter day in Texas with a good friend. It just don't get any better!

Side Note: I have eaten more Rainbow Trout this past month. Seems I am eating trout once a week. They always taste GREAT!

Nice haul. Good job Chuck and Steve. I have noticed so far during this mild winter that the sunnies really are turning on in the creeks especially a couple of days before a front
and a couple of days after a front. The are really active during the warm spells. I am also getting good numbers in both the creeks and river! Catching plenty of Redbreast,Bluegill,and Crappie.




Side Note: You guys fishing any rivers?

Excellent haul Chuck! I tried the Placid part of the Guad last week and got nada. Which was crazy since I had tried the Dunlap part earlier that week and did pretty good twice. I need to get over to the Hill Country and get while the getting is good.

Thanks Curtis, Torry, and Yesenia for the replies. Torry: Placid can be a difficult place to fish especially this time of year. Usually summer and fall are good months to fish there. Sunnies love those docks. Curtis: Fishing some rivers but mainly for trout. Going to take advantage of this warm winter creek bite!

With all of the latest fronts that have blown through the creek bite on some of the more active creeks has slowed down! Winter patterns have taken over!

I do not know any state other than Texas where you can catch Rainbow Trout,Rios, Redbreast, LMB, Hybrid Sunfish,and Bluegill, all in the same day. Great fishing guys!



Side Note: Have these latest cold fronts sent the remaining roaming Rios into their hibernation mode?

Great fishing I like a guy who catches what is biting. I used to be stubborn and not fish for anything other than the green ones. Now I fish to have some fish for the skillet. I catch lots more fish since I have switched to being a wide open fisherman.

Thanks Gitter and HumanSeine for the replies. Gitter: For the most part the Rios are in their winter mode and I am not catching that many. Every now and then I catch one in the creeks but they are very few and far between now. The Rio bite will not get good until spring once it warms up! HumanSeine: I mainly target sunfish. Using the "Bait of Champions" worms I catch a very nice variety of fish each time I go out. As for the Rainbow Trout, I have caught plenty on worms but most of them are on a Gold Super Duper and the Berkley Power Bait!

Looks like this upcoming sunfish bite including the Rio bite should be a good one!
