I'm going to Rayburn with my father Mid Feb for the first time. I've done a good amount of research and I really like the look of the east side of the lake from Needmore Point to Buck Bay and my father likes the west side because he says the water is dirtier and will be warmer. I'm not sure exactly where he is wanting to go, but I'm assuming it's around Hog Branch because that seems to be one of the most popular areas. I think Buck can get dirty too if there's rain, right? What kinda difference in water temp can be expected in Buck Bay vs Harvey/Hog Branch? Does West get more fishing pressure than East? Is the area on the east side of the lake, south of Buck, safer to navigate than over by 147 on the west side? I do think we'll have the boat lanes loaded. Thanks

That time of year there's a ton of tournaments so most places will have boats. If you're able to go during the early part of the week it'll be much easier to fish where you want to. Those areas you listed are similar. Water temp can vary from creek to creek depending on wind direction etc. It's not as much the part of the lake it's more of how protected it is. I've seen it low 60's in Veach and low 70's on the south end.

I really like Veach Basin, Harvey Creek, and the Canyons. Buck Bay has been good to me also but it's a pick your day and location on Rayburn. Every and anywhere can be good. Should be mostly pre-spawn with some fish moved up.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

I seem to do better in the Aysh arm myself however I do like Veach and Peckerwood a lot. I can take or leave the canyons. Needmore area can be good at times but not necessarily in February. Buck is good but dangerous getting to the back end. I believe that most folks prefer the north end but I kind of like the south end. There is a real good creek a little past Buck on the opposite side from Buck that I always catch fish in. Cant remember the name of the dang thing but it has some good deeper holes and seems to hold a lot of grass. I guess it would depend on where you will be staying as to where you want to fish. Like Mark Perry said, I would invest the money in the boat lanes chip to get around the lake with.
When all else fails I would say just find some grass and you will catch some fish.

Thanks for the info. Peckerwood gets mentioned a lot and I'm sure we'll be going there since it's pretty close to where we're staying in Zavalia. Buck is pretty far. When I posted I didn't know where we were staying yet. Looks like a 30 minute drive to the dam and then about an eight mile run by boat to get into buck. I've got a lot of waypoints I saved in google earth around Harvey from the images of the lake when it was low. Marked the whole creek channel and that old road bed and bridge.

As other people have said. There will be lots of boats on the lake at that time. If you can plan your trip during the week it helps. I live on Rayburn and the boat traffic on the lake this winter has been really high. I fish north of the 147 and used to I might see two or three boats in a day during the winter. Now even during the week there are boats running all over. Good luck when y’all come.

We'll be fishing there the 20th through the 24th so we'll have a few week days. I know there's a tournament the next weekend, but I haven't seen any tournaments planned for that weekend we're there.

Texas Team Trail and Texas High School Bass Association are both on the 22nd. It’s going to be crowded.
