Is it as necessary to warm up a 4-stroke as it is the 2-strokes before you run them hard? I've always warmed up my 2-strokes in gear for 8-10min, and then ease into full throttle (idle will only warm 4 cylinders). Maybe the first run I would run 3/4, but then subsequent times I would let her rip...when I knew she was hot and bothered and ready to go. Just curious about the 4-strokes since this is my first.

Thanks in advance for any replies. Have a Happy Holiday!

cheers Okie cheers

I don't spend 10 minutes warming it up, but yes I definitely idle my Verado for a few minutes before taking off.

On the SHO's okie just let it warm up the time you park your truck or your partner pulls up and parks. Ive always let them warm up that time frame which is about 5 mins. then slowly idle out a bit and you should be good.

The Yam & Merc gauges show temp so you don't have to guess

When I dropped my boat off yesterday to get the motor rebuilt, the mechanic was talking about this. He said jumping right up to WOT with a cold engine can cause scoring on the insides of the cylinders due to some parts expanding faster than others. Best to let it warm up before punching it.

I normally warm up any engine before putting it to work...from the lawn mower on up..warm oil always lubricates better than cold oil...
