Looking for a place to go fishing on Christmas day. Hoping to find a place that will not frustrate a novice fisherman. I can fish all day and catch one or two this time of year but kids are looking for some action. Was thinking maybe a power plant lake and did not know if the entrance gates to the area would be open.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night......... king

Welsh has no gates, Athens may be an option as well.

If you go to Welsh, check out the post that discusses the low water issues.

I would go to Welsh but you have to be careful launching and loading. Watch out for stumps also, but it it is a hot water lake and you should be able to get on some fish.

I caught as many bass Saturday at Athens as I did the weekend before at Squaw Creek. Much bigger average too.

Iā€™d take them to Athens and let them sling a weightless wacky rigged green senko all day. They can catch enough to stay busy for sure...and the possibility of a true big one is always present on Athens.

Throwing that wacky rig in the grass or on edges? Or something totally different?

I caught about a dozen this afternoon in a few hours on a small lake. I'd try the non-powerplant lakes for less fishing pressure.
