He has wanted to go fishing in Mexico for years so before he gets too old to enjoy it, I am going to take him. Trying to get ready a little here and there...help me out with a good, late March, Mexico bait selection...Go!
See you on the lake and have a great day!

Picachos is a dream situation -- bring plenty of green pumpkin and black/blue soft plastics (6" senkos, 8" lizards, 10" worms). They chew a whopper plopper and Rico, too, usually during low light and sometimes all day. A moderate assortment of chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, lipless and swimbaits. Usually there are at least two patterns you can chase, and you can fish the way you want, whether that's offshore or beating the bank.
Big fish are increasingly showing up.

I have never fished Picachos but I can't see it being a whole lot different than Salto. We go end of Feb and first of March and soft plastics are the bait. Watermelon Red being best color. Caught my best on sticks (wacky or TRig) and straight tales on a shaky head. I have had very little luck fishing hard baits or jigs but I still take a few just in case. Chatterbaits were absolutely worthless for me but spinner baits with willow leaf blades seem to do OK. I don't know if they have local net fishing on Picachos but if they do I hope your trip is during the off limit times. Tough and aggravating fishing when those nets are in the water.

Pete’s been there more than most and he’s spot on. We would take an assortment of 6XD, 8XD and 10XD along. Picachos is an absolute BLAST!
Add in a couple spinner baits in 1/2 ounce or larger. Then take a limited assortment of 1/2-3/4 Oz jigs and some form of trailer. That time of year a few rattling baits in red Eye Shad, Rattle Traps or whatever your favorite is. They do seem to bite off the normal brand traps better, so they must be tuned into normal accepted baits. Add a few Worms in black neon or anything large and 7”-8” variations.
Don’t overlook a few 1.5 style square Bill’s for shallow pockets and a MUST HAVE for us is a California Style Swimbait. Osprey style shallow runners can be amazing.
Don’t take too much of anything as once you burn through them you just switch up. Picachos is the only place I’ve actually caught one on a bare hook.
One of our angler teams set the boat record at Picachos with 425 fish in one day, all on a Jig. Those ranged from mostly 2 pounds to just above a 7 pounder. We are headed there in late January with a crew of 20 on an annual Bass Cat boat owners event.

6 inch Yum Dingers in Watermelon/Pearl. Plan on using at least 50 per day. Lizards and big worms in case you get tired of catching bass on the Yum Dingers, or if you get a guide that has some deeper fish located. Lots of brush, so take plenty of hooks and weights cause you're going to lose a bunch.

I am not sure which camp your going to but Ron Speeds website usually gives pretty good up to date info on what they were catching them on. At Salto they would poll us at dinner time every night. They would ask quantity, biggest, and what baits we were catching them on.
