Does anyone remember the date of the first Honey Hole Magazine bass tournament on Lake Fork? It was 8° and I think Valentine was caught, but not sure. 8 fish brought to weigh in. Thanks

They should bring back the original song.

Put me on the cover of honey hole magazine!

I am pretty sure Valentine was caught not in a tournament. I know the angler and the story.

I agree! Have we ever heard why it wont come back?

And since we are suggesting things, would love to see Bill’s weight of his top 5 at the end of each show.

I was the co-director and MC at that tournament along with Jerry Dean. I still have a few photos of the weigh in, awards on stage, etc.
It was COLD! I am talking single digit cold.
A couple of boats actually froze to the carpeted trailer runners overnight. Carpeted, aluminum lids were frozen shut and anglers were pouring hot water on them so they could thaw them enough to get rods out.
It was held at Fisherman' Cove and we did a live remote hourly broadcast over the local Winnsboro radio station. That was a lot of fun, just had to make sure my lips didn't freeze to the microphone!
No, Valentine wasn't caught during the tournament but Larry Barnes, the angler who did catch Valentine, did win the event with an over the slot bass.
Good times.

Sounds like you remember it well. What do you remember about the team championship in the mid 90's on Choke Canyon. I don't think it was as cold. Lol

Yep, it was a cold azz day. My starter battery froze and my steering cables froze also. I managed to get one little swimmer on a spoon & cashed a descent check.

Good Times

I'm pretty sure the answer is the guy who owns the show for some reason hated the tune, kinda a dick move getting rid of it.

I fished that tournament but remember hearing 7 degrees was the low. Seems like it was early December and may have been the same year Valentine was caught. Thankfully the winds were calm that morning. It was blowing good the day before and had created large ice rings around the base of all the stumps. Back then you saw wayyyyyy more stumps than you do now. The lake really looked awesome with the ice rings around the stumps. Fishing was slow but I did manage to get 2 bites on a jig and pig fished on the edges of creek channels. Both were fat 7# fish. The upper end of the slot was 21" at the time and I was a little unsure as to how they would be measured. I did know the game wardens would probably be at weigh in and would check any close fish. I had heard stories that they would push the nose of the fish firm against one end, flair the tail and if it was short you got a ticket. I decided that neither fish would quite pass that test and let them go. That was tough to do but several years later in their December tournament I got even with one over 10#.
