The white bass have settled into their winter pattern and have been easy to catch lately. Its pretty good timing for me because I've mostly been focusing on crappie for the past few months. Honesty I need a change... Try fishing the deep open water at creek mouths in the 35-55' or deeper mark. Also, should you find a deep hump, something that comes up to 35'ish with deeper water around it try that as well. I am using a combo of a fluke on top rigged on a double eyed RSR jig head with a slab or another fluke tied below it about a foot and a half. Make sure to use a swivel above all of it or your going to be battling line twist. Dead stick the fish and get your thumper rolling. Set the baits right in the middle of where you see the fish on your electronics. Please call and book a trip. We don't have to wake up at the crack of dawn to be successful this time of year. When we have had enough of white bass we can go catfish or chase crappie. Phillsguideservice.com 817-201-4144 Check me out on facebook as well.

Good to see your post. Thanks for sharing helpful info to your fellow fishermen. Some of the guides who post here just show what they caught and then solicit business. Their posts would be much more interesting to TFFers at large if they were more forthcoming (not suggesting to tell where they caught them - just tips on the fish pattern and what their bait set-up and technique are).

Viva!!
No problem Dennis. Back when I got onto TFF I felt there was a lot more helpful info given out. I’d like to do my best to keep that going by posting reports, methods to catch, maps, and hopefully videos soon if there is any interest. I try to do the same in my FB page also.

We put a serious whopping on them again today. The best bite came from 45-55FOW on points. Ledges seemed to have more fish roaming around. Lots of solid white bass. Also caught about a dozen catfish and a few crappie as well. Fishing is great right now on the days the wind is not howling.

Great post Bassthumb and thanks for the report. I went out this afternoon from 1 to 4 pm and was catching them in 40 - 50 fow on drop offs and humps, I used that type of slab you showed me a few weeks ago. Loved it!

Sweet. I am glad it worked for you. This time of year the fish want to be deep. They are freezing cold when we pull them out of the water. That means they are also going to be lethargic, hence why we hold the baits really still and dead-stick them. They go deep because of a combination of water temp and an abundance of bait that they like. I imagine oxygen plays role as well but I am not a scientist. The current pattern should last until the water temps warm up significantly. In late February as well as March, you will be able to dead stick out deep and if its slow you can find waves of spawners back in the creeks. It's pretty fun to have two completely different patterns producing at one time..especially if one pattern is slow and I need to pull a rabbit out of a hat.
Don't forget about tandem rigs. I am using two baits 100% of the time I am dead sticking. We are catching several doubles when we can get the fish fired up. Secondly, a thumper, or an oar if you're not ready to build or buy one is imperative. The thumpers are terribly terribly annoying but they work. I am a firm believer.
Boom! go get em!
