I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong location. But what is the safest transaction type to deal with when selling a Boat? I have someone wanted to purchase my Bass Cat P3 from me for a amount that is making me a little nervous. And am currently thinking a wire transfer directly to my account, but what are my other options? Thanks in advance for any help and insight you can provide.

Cash inside your bank straight to the teller who will verify amount and authenticity of bills.
The only difference between a little girls scream and a warrior's battle cry is the direction your'e running!

cashiers check or cash.. and make sure your bank calls the issuing bank to verify the authenticity of the cashiers check. a cashiers check can also be cancelled, so make sure the funds transfer first. especially if it's an out of state sale.

Is a lien involved on either end of the deal?

Sounds much like the kind of offers that I had from advertisements on Craigslist. It is a scam, or at least I decided it was after having numerous offers to send a certified check in advance of picking the item up. If I quizzed them any, I would find that they knew very little about the item they were supposedly buying.

a cashier check that can be verified prior to picking the boat up if there is a lien meet at the bank the lien is on with your cashiers check an walk out with the titles don't give folks money an wait on your titles once the money is transferred you have no leverage.

THIS ^^^^ and a bill of sale and the title (titles) in hand and signed at the time of purchase. Be sure all the numbers match on the paperwork,..

I would walk away from that one. Anytime an offer is high enough to worry you, that should be the giveaway. You are about to be scammed. If you are decided to go ahead with it, cash or a trip to the bank. Did the buyer tell you he was out of the country and that he would have a driver come pick it up?

For large transactions, we almost always see cash, certified cashiers check, or direct bank wire. The wire is the fastest and safest.

Cash is always best. If it's local and he wants to give you a personal check - have him go with you to HIS bank and cash it. Then have the bank issue you a bank check for that amount. This way, you're not walking around with a lot of cash in your pocket. Wire transfer directly to your bank would be the second best, and then, ACH money transfer.
Remember, if it sounds too good to be true?????
A major scam that has been around the block is for someone to give you a larger amount than the product you're selling and have you give them the overpayment on your check or cash. When their check doesn't clear...yours will and you become liable for that amount.
