Hello everyone I was wanting to get everyone’s thoughts on fishing bridge pilings especially for winter going into early spring. I have done ok using a drop shot on a spinning set up with a zoom trick worm. What are some of y’all favorite? Is shade still a factor in the winter? Just trying to explore some new possibilities.

Fish the same way on pilings. I've had limited success. I was wondering if people have any luck dragging a c-rig along the base of the pilings. That might be another way. The pilings on some lakes have a cross ledge down just maybe 5-6' depending on water level. Drop it on that 1st and see if any bass are lurking, and then drop it off to the bottom. Give you a better chance to get hit. Also, least on Pool the damn crappie dudes drop trees down there and will make a mess of your drop shot. I've seen some decent bass caught on minnows too. Crappie dudes get a good one when the land a 3lb bass on 4lb test line.

Thanks Greg W for your thoughts on this technique. You are absolutely right about the crappie brush around pilings but I think it’s reasonable to say it has to attract bait and bass as well. Just trying to think of an effective way to fish, maybe a light weight Texas rig if it’s not too windy. Then maybe the c rig if the wind picks up.

Yes a c-rig will work but in less than 20 foot of water, some lakes are different and fish deeper. I like a jig or tube they will catch a lot of bass around pilings and you don't have to fish them deeper than 12 feet regardless of water depth. Works best with a breeze which makes a slight current flow, or bridges with bottle necks like the RR bridge in Buck Creek on Ray Roberts. good luck

I normally go to a jig when I’m fishing bridge piling’s whether they are submerged where they can’t be seen or just fishing and old bridge. If the wind is blowing pretty good I have also used a crank bait that will reach The bottom around them them. A plug knocker is a must for that!!! Lol

The best approach is to determine if any fish are on a particular bridge piling and then what depth they are. Choose your presentation accordingly.

Wacky can be good at times along with a flutter spoon. Yea, I like wacky as well. Just think the fish don't see it as often. But in deeper water use a weight on one side.
