Just want to see what the consensus of the group is here. Is there a water temp you stop throwing deep cranks at? At what temp do you think their effectiveness starts to decline?

Unless they're up on beds I really don't think there is a "bad" time to throw a deep crank in Texas. Certainly will be other techniques that will catch them better on a day by day basis but I've always got one tied on in the boat.

And it doesn't always have to be a deep crank.

Caught a ShareLunker on a DD22 with water temp of 48. Sleeted and snowed all day. Most miserable weather fishing day I have ever had. Loaded the boat all day. Draw tournament partner lost one at the boat that might have also made 13 that day on a deep crankbait.

If the lake was frozen over and you were limited to a vertical presentation (ice fishing), then maybe.
Otherwise, they will still catch fish.

They used to have all Bill Norman cranks in a suspending model, I don't think they still make them but they were incredible in the coldest water you could find. I still always have a Deep Little N with suspend dots tied on, they aren't fun when you get hung up but they will trigger some giants.

And it doesn't always have to be a deep crank. I’ve been close to taking “their bait”, they are proud of that thing. Anyone used it yet?

Surface temps and telmps at the depths the deep cranks go will be different.
To me there is no off seasson for them since baitfish live in the lake 24/7 365 days per year.
