What frequency and range do you set your SI to when searching for cover such as brush piles? Would it be smart to go to 455 and go wider?

455 covers more distance and the range really depends on the depth of water. If you’re in 30’ of water and your range is set to 100’, you’re only covering about 70’ of actual range.

That is basically the scenario I am referring to. 10-25 foot deep and wanting to just find brush. In that situation would you stick with 455? I have watched tutorial videos and most seem to just run 800 the whole time. Not sure if you should just scan with 455 and switch to 800 for definition once you find it.

Thanks

1200 kHz CHIRP
Three times the depth if in more than 20' of water. If in 20' or less=50'

I set my side out until the picture gets dark on the far edge and then back it in. Its easy to adjust so I vary it depending what water quality is like etc.

Thanks for all the input.

I am gathering that I should keep it at the 800 since I run Lowrance.

How big of a brush pile are you looking for? If the piles are tiny, they will be hard to see and you will want to drive back & forth in closer tracks/routes/paths/whatever you want to call it. But you need to see which frequency works best with your transducer. Mine works better on 455 than it does on 800. (I’m running lss1’s still and they might be getting worn out)

You won’t have images like what Wayne posted.

My plan is to find some brush piles of all sizes on Cedar Creek this year. I currently run Gen 3 with LSS2. In January I will be upgrading to the Live with active imaging.

I've noticed on different lakes I can see definition differently accoding to color actually.

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!
