Not really sure but I believe it has something to do with the venting of the gas filler line/gas tank.

I belive the FX models spray out chum from there Gray water for the toilet?  Honestly. I don’t know. The tanks are vented through the fuel cap on mine....but it dang sure ain’t an FX.

Vent for fuel tank. They do not vent through gas cap.

I know you will loose the cap going down the road, if you do not tighten it back a couple of turns after fueling up. It helps with the gas puking out all over you boat when the tank gets full. It also helps with the air that gets trapped in there and keeps kicking off the pump while fueling.
