Which heads actually stand up. I have tried many in clear water to watch and all just lay over on its side. Just curious on your answers.

What worm are you using?

several. grande air tail, trick worm, Berkley bottom hopper. experimenting with different ones. air tail tries to stand up, sometimes it does.

I use a shaky head a lot. I have yet to see one stand up. They all fall over. The thing about a shaky head that I think makes it effective is the action as you hop it. It arcs well and tends to fall(flat) slowly, compared to a regular Texas rig.

Another thing about a shaky head? It’s cheaper to rig than a Texas rig.

Try this sometime. Take a Biffle Bug and rig it on a shaky head. Insert a foam ear plug inside the Biffle Bug first. It will stand up perfectly. Hop up quickly...and fall slowly.

I like the idea, but biffle bugs are brittle.

Here is my take on it. If you are going down hill, from shallow water to deeper water, they will stand for you. If you are going uphill, they tend to lay over. I hardly ever use shaky head while bank fishing, but I always have 1 tied on in the boat. The angle of the presentation means everything

Megastrike Shake2 Pro Model. These stand up almost 100% of the time, especially after a short hop. They have a small, built in platform and come in wide shank and straight worm models.

I fish a shakey head a lot, and I've tried so many styles of heads. The one I always come back to is the buckeye spot remover. It seems to come over rocks so much better than the others. I prefer to drag my shakey head over the rocks instead of hopping it and I catch so many more fish doing this. Other shakey heads are almost immediately hung up but I've dragged spot removers over so much rock that almost all the paint is worn off the bottom and they still catch fish.

Get one with a flat bottom on it. Check out Yum, Dirty jigs and Yum brands. Type in stand up jig head at Tacklewarehouse to see them. Another one to check out is the Viper XP called the Designated Hitter. Google Viper XP jigs to see that one.

Xcite and V&M worms float up on a flat bottom jig head.. I did a pool test with them. Grande Bass also has an air tail wiggler that has a hollow end tip and Creme makes a 6 inch tube worm also.

The Creme worm is solid from the head through the egg sack, then it is hollow the rest of the length.

I have tried those and they didn't hook up well, nor did they stand up that well. I kept missing fish and wondering why, and then I sight fished with it and saw the lead shape and eyelet angle cause the jig to blow out of a fishes mouth.


This one stands up almost every time, check out the video. I haven't used them enough to really assess how durable the titanium wires are, but it seems pretty good.

Gonna be dang hard to beat a spot remover been using them for years and never had a single issue with them great hooks and its the push on style not the dumb screw on type thats impossible to get on straight!

You gotta try Aaron’s new Yeah Babee stand up shaky head. It uses a heavy gauge 5/0 hook, custom shaped head, pig tail bait keeper, and (last time I bought them) they were only 75cents each. Also can get him to make custom colors.

might have to do that... now that its super finesse winter fishing. Ive been trying the Gamakatsu G-Finesse Trickyhead Shakey Head but the 5.99 for a 3 pack is rough
