Did up a mess of egg flies and san juan worms as well as some prince nymph variants for the stocking season. The little creek near me gets a dose of pellet eaters on the 21st. Then went to day dreaming about big fish; hybrids, stripers, and largemouth and did a longear and a shad. I need to pick up some more ice fur as that seems, in my opinion to have the right translucent appearance and texture for the dorsal parts of a streamer pattern. On the longear I used a piece of barred olive rabbit zonker and some leftover ice fur for the belly and transitioned into laser dub. The whole of the dorsal is laser or ice dub and a little blue EP fiber on the flank. On the shad I used EP fiber top and bottom with a pinch of laser dub in grey and whote for the top and bottom respectively.

Nice work. Our local spot was stocked last week but we get another dose in January. TPWD also stocks catfish there so trout won't last long. Everybody and their cousins were there, but it was good fun watching and helping the kids enjoy the experience.

Yeh my little creek (Nolan Creek in Belton) holds some whopper channels and a few flatheads I'm pretty sure the trout stocking is why the channels get so big. Just a tiny little creek maybe 15 yards wide at its best and a deep hole would be around navel deep but it supports hordes of catfish and some good bass; both spots and largemouth. Haven't caught any descent sunfish or crappie yet out of there but the longears are super aggressive and pretty to look at.

Supposed to get two stockings one this month and again next month.

Very nice. Maybe a rainbow trout patterned largish baitfish tie would work on some of the predators trying to take advantage of the stockers. Between the assault from the folks following the stockings and the catfish and bass, those trout probably donโ€™t last very long. Perhaps when the frenzy is winding down and most everyone has left the creek would be the time to toss something like a rainbow trout. Those predators ought to be hanging around eager and primed for just one more easy pickings trout.

I've been wanting to try those large rainbow patterns I think I have posted on here before and may do just that. I'd really like to try them on the Guadalupe for the stripers, those fish there must be like the ones on the Cumberland in Kentucky and dine heavily on trout. I wonder if the trout stockings wake the flatheads up from fall/winter dormancy.
