When you have something to sell, which category do you fall into and why??
1. Milk it for every penny it's worth.
2. Blow it out the door.

I look through the classifieds a lot on this forum and I see some things that make me think "Really"? A few examples of things I see that my brain can't really process:
1. Boats for sale for months at a time at a ridiculous price that get absolutely no comments and the seller just continues to bump it back to the top holding the same price. This goes on and on and on and on...... The logic center in my brain tells me the price is too high, so it needs to be lowered to sell. Maybe there is some reasoning I'm not understanding.
2. Items, especially used electronics, priced too high that get no interest but the price never changes.
3. Starting a new thread to sell the same thing at the same price that hasn't already sold in the last multiple months. Hmmmmmmm......
4. Taking the time and effort to list an item for 20 bucks that can be purchased at Academy for 26 bucks.

I may list something to sell at an unreasonable price, but I'll quickly lower it until it starts getting interest. I'm not going to spend a lot of time bumping the item ad nauseam hoping to make a few extra bucks. I fall into the Blow It category.

Oh man, you are gonna touch some nerves here!!! So many people represented here! This should be fun popcorn
My favorite is the guy who thinks so highly of himself he lists a different boat every 6-12 months at a ridiculous price and then bumps it for months and can't understand why you don't want the absolute privilege of buying his stuff because he is so special. It's comical. This will be great.

Some folks probably don't need to sell their item quickly. I don't buy used stuff unless its a good deal myself.

some times on the boats for sale the price is dictated by how much that is owed on it rather than market price . from the buying part of a good clean 5 or 6 yr old boat the price is generally high because the market is so much better for them it is much easier to sell a 25 to 30 k boat than a 1 yr old boat because you have so many of them to compete with.

If I have stuff for sale it is because I am done with it and want it gone. I will price it to move but leave myself a little room because everyone like to dicker.

When Im done with it I blow it out. My stuff ALWAYS sells fast.

Ive sold all my helix when I upgrade with ease, all my reels, rods etc...

I usually look up the new price the BEST one I can find on ebay amazon any place and make sure Im below that by at least 200 on a helix 12 shipped to ya by me...

When I sold out from racing cars, I tried to sell my toter home and huge trailer with my two cars and everything I had for 100k in all included sale, with no takers. I ended up piecing it all and ended up with a little over 150k in my pocket and it all sold in a 3 month period.

Lots of reasons I see. Paid to much to begin with, emotionally connected, simply think it's worth more than it is, financed to much, some just want new stuff and want/have to sell the current stuff at a ridiculous price to afford it. It goes on and on. I laugh at some of the stuff and just move on. I usually just price it fair and I've never sat on anything to long.

me too. I figure that anyone can get stuff at wholesale, if I can. So when I sell stuff, I take into account that I don’t want or need it any longer. I price stuff to go!

I love the guys that price a used reel (I don’t care if it’s been used once, for one cast....it’s USED) for $10 less that full retail. Haha. A lot of times you can go to Academy and buy a brand new in a sealed box reel for the same price.

How about hats, shirts, shoes, and rain gear that has been "gently" worn? Worn is worn and worn by someone else does not get any attention from me.

recently a guy had a used reel for sale mid 100 and after a while said make an offer. I did at 100 figuring he wanted to negotiate. Apparently he didn't. He still wanted his original price?? I haven't seen it as sold yet.

I love the ones that look up an overpriced similar item on the internet and try to use it to justify the price. They skipped past the 20 other listings of the same thing new priced lower than they ask for it used. I figure that once something is used a good rule of thumb is 50% off. Unless it is a really expensive item, if someone asks more than 50% then I'd rather just spend a little more for new.

I love the ones that have a $100 gift card and want $90 for it. By the time I take time to look at it then the gas and time to drive and get it, it probably costs me more to buy 2nd hand than from the store. Plus you always run the risk of it not working.

You do see that occasionally especially with boat where the selller seems to think he is doing someone a favor by selling it.

I will usually price it to sell fast, unless it’s Cowboys tix. I will hold on as long as It takes to sell these because it will eventually sell for high prices. Don’t ask me why......

I give away a lot of stuff that I could sell. Selling stuff is usually a PIA.
