Sounds like you and I have had a similar experience unloading a boat. LOL

Shoot me a PM and I'll give you my cell so you can tell me all about it.

You can lift the motor up to the deck by hand on the trailer, but you CANT when the engines running and tq is applied.

On a typical lead sled I might almost agree with you but on a fast hull you're sadly mistaken.

As for what you bold quoted, thats the steering slop from no hydraulic pressure not running... I thought that first reply was simple enough to explain that, my bad it was over simplified based on the few replies, like saying that look back at chop and youll see it...

Turning/ pivoting a motor side to side is not checking the motor mounts that is just pushing on the STEERING system they are all going to turn like that. Our boats are hydraulic steering not mechanical linkage so without any hydraulic pressure the engine will turn.

Motor mounts when worn let the motor move on the X axis and over all just wiggle all over, like if you lift on the back of the motor upward, youll feel no resistance for the amount of slop thats there..

You are incorrect. The Seastar hydraulic system is not vacuum assisted or boosted by a hydraulic pump. It is simply a pressurized system that is self contained. It does not firm up once the engine is running or the boat moving.

As I have said. You don’t know what you don’t know.

haha ok, its not pressurized enough to be a solid linkage so same thing I have said several different ways.

Your still JUST turning the engine same as turning the wheel, your not checking the motor mounts.

Eurethane vs rubber motor mounts arent going to stop your engine from turning when you grab it and turn it...

As Ive said if common sense was common everyone would have it!

This video is the exact same as a mechanic grabbing the front tires on a car without a locking steering column and turning them side to side then telling you that you need new front end parts..

Its ok, now you know how to check motor mounts, your welcome.

Posting on the internet is about trying to help people not be RIGHT or prove someone wrong.

I dont argue with stop signs but I do find it hard to over look when people post incorrect information. That said if a stop sign was in the middle of a field or a straight highway with no crossing I would ignore it as it isnt going to hurt me or anyone else to ignore it.

In this case your video may cause guys to think they need to order the R motor mounts not even considering how many millions of non R boats are out there and working just fine. The difference between 70mph and 90 is pretty significant, I could see where they may be some more durable motor mounts in those very high performance engines.

Ken said my Allison had a trolling motor on it one time years ago. It was a 150 Opti.

Solid motor mounts work on any boats that balance on the pad at speed. I put them on my Ranger 518 when the 200 Opti was being rebuilt and it made a huge difference.

Another thing to check is the bolt that connects the steering with the motor steering arm. That bolt coming loose has caused many boat mishaps. It can sheer but most of the time I hear it just loosens and the owner didn't check it.

I have you beat. My partner drug me up onto the ramp backwards at Tawakoni one day about 40 years ago!

Let's have lunch and I'll tell you all the gory details. Ugh!

I got a sinful amount of joy out of reading that story. That's a top notch bad day!

Bobby, it is unlikely that you will have any handling issues with your boat. Boats with 200 or more HP can achieve speeds that lift the hull free of the water to the point you are literally balancing the entire hull on a small area known as the "running pad". Many boaters have experienced what is called "chine walking" once they get the motor trimmed up running at high speed.

Some boats are more notorious than others for chine walk.
Can definitely happen on some 150’s. Going to show my age but 1st new bass boat I ever purchased was a brand new shiny Tidecraft Wildfire with a Mariner Mag 150 from US Sports(Fun & Sun Hurst now). Very fast little lightweight bassboat.....and the “chine walkingest” POS boat I’ve ever been in. Was actually a pretty decent fishing platform .....and fast.....and unstable at speed. Wasn’t very many years old when the transom began flexing..... One of my worse “investments” and at a fairly early age! Good info in this post! Interesting too. Ignore the know-it-alls with the “empty back seats”! laugh

Thanks 361V! I remember the Tidecraft Wildfires! They were good looking boats.

City Marine from Sulfur Springs was selling them at the Dallas Market Hall boat show for $9,999.00 with a Merc 150 one year. He told me they sold over 100 boats that week at the show. The next year Tidecraft was bankrupt.
